Hello Guys...

I'm currently fixing my friends dad's computer a dell dimension 5000, and it did no have any recovery disks or recovery drives so he bought a new OEM CD of Windows XP Pro SP2 so i formatted it and installed it for him, i went to the dell support site and downloaded all the right drivers for his system every driver went on fine except the graphics driver and it does not even reconise the graphics card in the BIOS, would this mean he would need a new graphics card as it is not being detected right and not letting me install it as it does not give you any info on the card...

Please reply back ASAP

Jordan Aka DJ Zoro ;)

If you can use the computer at all... then the graphics card is working.

On Dell's website there are recommended drivers and then there are optional drivers. Try some of the optional video drivers, he might not have have the video that the recommended drivers are for, it happens.

Also, if a video card has been added into the computer you will need to install the drivers for that, instead of the ones from the Dell website. I use Astra to find out which hardware is missing drivers. There is also Everest which a lot of people think is good, I've never used it myself.

Hi.

As QuiescentWonder said, you should use Lavalys Everest to find out which graphic card your dad's computer has (Its under Computer -> Summary if memory serves right). Once you know it, it should be easy to find a working driver. In case you aren't able to find one, PM Me and I'd gladly help.

Good luck!
