I know the average cost of making like the Windows 95 CD to make/obtain the CD and stamp it is only about 10 cents per disc, if that, but I've began to wonder, how much does it cost Microsoft to create the hologram discs? I've only seen them used for Windows, Office, and Visual Studio, the more expensive software, which is making me think there rather expensive to make.

I'm guessing the either create the discs in their own plants, which should just boil down to material and equipment cost. The more you make, the cheaper they get. Purchase of the machine that makes the discs/etchins might be high but when you do as many discs are MS the cost per copy is pretty marginal. The other option is outsourcing and given the amount of CD/DVDs MS makes I'm pretty sure they can get a pretty decent discount.

I'd be interested in that too - I can pretty much recreate the OSX Covers (if I find proper DVD-Rs) but the MS Covers are impossible to recreate in that way...

I'd also be interested where MS produces the Vista Boxes...

Some of the free trials (mainly Office and associated products, Windows trials seem to usually be non-holographic) have been the holographic discs too though, which suggests they can't be that expensive.
