Turned 16 today :D

Got a new laptop, camera and some clothes, DVDs and other little things. Too much if you ask me >_>

Laptop: Acer Aspire 5315, Intel Celeron 560 2.13Ghz, 2GB (came with 1GB and another GB that wasnt installed), 120GB HDD, ~360MB of video memory, Vista Basic.

Like the laptop except Vista Basic not having aero glass :P

Happy Birthday HappyDude! Your presents sound awesome, I would install Home Premium on that laptop (Using the 30 day trial), just to have a play with it on regular Vista.

Hope today goes well for you.

thanks everyone... now I just need to go for my licence .... :D

And I never realised how good an acer laptop would be, this thing barely warms up, let alone overheat!

How long does it take to boot up? I'm just asking because my mum's Acer takes something like 6 minutes from pressing the power button to being ready to use.

About 30 seconds to desktop (give or take a few seconds), about 45 seconds to a minute before everything is loaded. I did remove some of the acer crap.

Our P4 2.93ghz Acer desktop takes about 45 seconds to desktop and about 1min 30 to be fully ready (1GB RAM)

Then, you could have ended up with an Acer that was crappy. It's not like every laptop one company makes is bad. It's hit or miss no matter who you go with.

I bought the cheapest Toshiba laptop I could find three years ago and it's still going without any problems. Now I have this HP and the power button doesn't work and if I'm not using headphones I have to hold down on one part of the laptop or the speakers won't work. Also, the optical drive randomly pops open all the time. Of course, the last computer I want to work on is my own, so I just deal with it being shitty instead of fixing it. Point is, the Toshiba hasn't given me any problems and it was only half of what this laptop was and it's a year older.

My mum did keep a lot of the trials and such, and then installed a bunch of anti-virus and firewall software so, maybe that contributed to the slow boot-up.
