I buy my PC games as they're quite cheap, I like to have the real boxes and it's worth giving the makers a few quid if it's a good game, but I don't buy anything else - I'd probably buy Windows if I didn't already free Vista and Server 2008 from Microsoft as I like collecting genuine OSes too and it's important to have the reliability of a genuine version now that there's no VLK ie you have to use cracks that they shut down with updates, but not Office, Adobe, all the useful little programs with their nag screens and keygens, etc, they're too expensive and too easy to pirate :P

Yeh, most of my PC Games are legitimate, but I only tend to get legit software if it's going dirt cheap or is free (MS ftw!)

I do like the shine of Legitimate MS Discs though, which is the main reason I pay for legit Windows (though I mostly get free legit copies where possible)

Yeh, MS do give so much stuff away if you keep an eye out for it, I've already got more Vista licences than Vista-capable PCs and they're meant to be sending another copy of Vista Ultimate to me soon from the Centro beta :) (plus SQL Server 2008 Std from Heroes Happen Here should be along in a few weeks too now that it's released ;))

I never buy software. I either get it in betas and torrents. Specifically for games I use a special version of steam that has all the games ready to download.

Yeah well piracy is pretty much legal in your country, as I have some pirated discs from cd shops over there.

Yes. My Friend Sometimes buy Matrix, which normal is on 4 CD, and in Russia they sell on 2 CD, and this is full, not riped version, but Instalation took longer...

No, I don't buy software. I'd rather spend my money on storage media.

I buy as much software as I can afford, and try to find freeware if possible (though most of it is inferior).

Linux (Ahem). It comes with functionality, or has free applications that have the functionality of the software I would have to pay for on Windows...

As for the software for Windows that I've bought, a countless number of games over the years, Daemon Tools Pro and GpsGate. I've been really tempted to buy WinRAR and PowerISO because I use them so often.

I buy the games because there aren't expensive (above €25-30 for most games...),
but, I've downloaded Microsoft Office 2003, Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended and Sony Vegas 8.0b by warez...

Soon, from the 1st january 2009, downloading a pirated file in France will be a crime with a terrible sentence : no Internet connexion for 1 year if you download a pirated file ! And of course a big fine, because a stupid law (the "Loi Olivennes") have been voted and approved by the Sénat (=French parliament)...

I'm sure that you didn't mean that you attempt to but then it doesn't work out for some reason. That, on the other hand, has actually happened to me. I started downloading an application and decided that I would just buy it. So I left my file sharing application running while I went to the manufacturers web page trying to buy the application. It was such a hassle to buy this software, I have no idea why, that by the time I'd gotten half way through the process it had already finished downloading... so I didn't buy it.

It depends on the Software.
If its an app, then i'll look for a free counterpart.
If its a game, and i really want it, i'll get a hard copy. (but i cant recall buying any games so far...)

It depends really. Most of the time I will download a program first and try it out. If I like it, then I will buy it.

Most stores don't allow you to return software once opened, so I don't want to risk wasting my money.

I have found freeware applications to replace many common apps I used to use though, like DeepBurner, 7-Zip, etc...
