Well, I would say the more the better. Also you want to provied fast map/costum-things downloads and some players, so 10Mb should be more than ok.

P.S. Aren't 500 Pounds a little TOO much for a gameserver, I mean I saw some for 25€ a month...

1x16 slot server uses approximately 1.5Mbps of bandwidth at maximum so work out how many your server can run and then work out how much bandwidth you need. But as a thing, get as much as you can.

Don't spend extra though if you don't have to. It's not like the server is constantly moving big amounts of information back and forth, it just transfers information about where you and other players are moving, where bullets are, etc. None of the textures or models or maps are transfered in the middle of a game.

OVH are by far one, if not, the cheapest dedi company in the EU. If you think you're going to get a Core2* server with 100mbit and nice specs without a fat bill per month, you're probably smoking crack.

Indeed. I see more and more people confusing VPSs with Dedis though. They think that a VPS with a Quad core processor is going to be *significantly* faster and better in every way compared to a Dedicated Server. Please don't fall for a VPS.

Definitions:

Dedicated:-
A server which you "own" all of the hardware of, and all functionality. You have your own operating system and are able to use 100% of all system resources whenever you want to. You are the only person using this server.

VPS (Virtual Private Server):-
A server which you "own" a part of the hardware. You get your own virtual install of an operating system of which you are able to use up to 100% of the system resources (in some cases) or a set amount of system resources. You are one of many people using this server.

RPS (Real Private Server):-
A server which you own all of the hardware of, and all functionality. You have your own operating system and are able to use 100% of all system resources whenever you want to. You are the only person using this server but you share a hard disk with other people.

Daniel C used to run about 60 Live for Speed servers on a single core2duo server with 4GB RAM. He used to use about 3GB of RAM for these game servers, but only 25-50% CPU. Game servers don't use a lot of CPU in most cases, but they do use a lot of memory.

Some cases, like garrysmod, do use a lot of CPU if there are "errors" in the game, which gmod frequently gets it being so complex in its physics engine and all. If things repeatedly move or bounce around, it has to report it to the server, using CPU time. However games like battlefield, CS/CS:S, etc, are stable games and use only a set amount of CPU in nearly all cases.

Your best bet is to start off with a Kimsufi 08 XXL and if you find you need higher, then upgrade. Don't buy hardware and resources you don't need!
