I know some HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, mySQL and I like to screw around with all of it every once in a while. I by no means ever want to be paid or on any sort of schedule for writing anything with these. Web development is a hobby and interest of mine. I enjoy learning about them but I have a problem, I have no idea what functionality to build into a website, which is why my website has been practically nothing for a couple of years. I'm interesting in taking them up again recently but I need an idea, can anyone think of something useful for me to build?

EDIT: As to the following, I've found out the gedit supports syntax highlighting for about everything, I'm still open to suggestions if anyone has them.

EDIT 2: In case anyone else is interested, here is some useful info on how to setup gedit for web development: http://www.micahcarrick.com/09-29-2007/ ... ditor.html

Also, anyone know of any good editing utilities that just do syntax highlighting for PHP, CSS, HTML, etc... I don't want preview panes or FTP uploaders or anything fancy like that, just something small that does highlighting. Nothing to complicated either, I don't want to spend hours learning keyboard shortcuts or anything, so if you're going to recommend Emacs or some full featured IDE (I prefer to keep my planning to white boards and scrap paper) just stop right there. I've always written everything in Notepad and I'm looking to do a small upgrade. Also, something that has been updated recently, I want it to support XHTML 1/2, HTML 5 Draft, CSS 3, etc. The machine I'll be using for development is running Ubuntu 8.04 but I also have Windows XP/Vista machines in the house. Something FREE would be a huge plus.
