Favorite Startup Sound

Post by Resplendent »

I'd have to say for Windows, 98 is my favorite followed by NT 5.0 Beta 1/2. For Mac it'd have to be the 1997 Quadra.

As a reference, here are the Windows sounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSGDeuYJB9A

Mac sounds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_8zPSO9qns (unsure if this has all of them)

Apologies for those I left out!

The NT 4 ones were good but they were quite long. But I have to applaud the use of backmasking.

NT 4 and Windows 2000 were the best Windows startup imo, and I love the bong from the modern macs. The 20th Aniversery mac was great too.

If you slow down The Microsoft Sound from 98, it sounds a bit like the THX logo.

I liked the gong of the Power Mac. It was great in that it beaped not when the system started up but rather the actual hardware.

Windows 95. It had a very "dreamy" quality to it.

Windows NT 4's startup sound is the best, with Windows 98 in a close second. The startup sound for KDE on my Linux box is pretty awesome as well.

There are some good Linux Startup Sounds, I personally like Kubuntu's and Sabayon's, Sabayon's sound very commanding

Slowing down the XP startup sound makes it better in my opinion.
