They maybe thought you were inviting offers to be made outside of eBay, they don't like deals being made personally as they lose the selling fees and the buyer loses the protection that eBay offers.

Yeah thats what i thought, also why i didnt e-mail them in anger....

I think that that PayPal-only thing was because eBay wanted more money. PayPal is owned by eBay and whenever transactions go through PayPal, they deduct some sort of "fee" because they want some $$$. If they allow only PayPal then buyers/sellers have no choice but to hand over a chunk of their cash to PayPal.
