Well, nVidia bought Ageia, and everything what we now need to run PhysX engine is nVidia GPU and drivers. Officially supported are this GPUs:

GeForce 9800 GTX
GeForce GTX 280
GeForce GTX 260

But it's working on older GPUs too (on NV92 - GF8800GTS 512 it's working perfectly, maybe on NV80 and lower too).

So, how to: Download beta drivers 177.39 from this site (select GeForce 200 Series and your OS):

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

This package includes PhysX drivers and CUDA too.

Then run setup (or extract files using WinRAR...) - you get error "Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your HW...". Close setup and navigate to folder where setup files are extracted (default is C:\NVIDIA\$yourOS$\177.39\). Repleace file "nvdisp.inf" by this one: (its modified by me and tested on Vista x64, GF8800GTS 512MB)

http://www.edisk.cz/stahnout-soubor/93194/nv_disp.rar_7.75KB.html
http://rapidshare.com/files/129478279/nv_disp.rar

Then run "setup.exe" from same folder... setup recognize your HW successfully now (i hope). After driver installation and reboot install PhysX drivers by running "PhysXsetup.exe" from same folder.
Now you have PhysX card in your PC for free (well for cost of your graphics card) 8). It runs really fast, original Ageia PPU is comparable with Geforce 3...
You can test that on Unreal Tournament 3 PhysX Maps for example (don't forget to turn-on "Hardware PhysX" in Settings):

http://nzone.com/object/nzone_ut3_physxmod.html

It works with any games using Ageia PhysX (like Cellfactor...). :P

Does anybody know if a GeForce 8600 GTS on x64 is supported? I can't find anything on nVidia's site for x64 that is 177.15+

Installed driver, haven't tested PhysX yet, same hardware as OP
Frozenport: If the 8600 uses the NV92 core it could probably work.

Edit: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_8.06.12_whql.html
Then check C:\Program Files (x86)\AGEIA Technologies\demos for some demonstrations.

Yes it is. But i don't know if phyX will work (8600 GTS probably use G84 GPU)
Use my modified .inf if you can try physX, or if you can use newest (unsupported) drivers, add this to "nv_disp.inf":

Code:
To [Manufacturer] section:

%NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0400.1%   = nv_G8x,       PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0400

To ; Localizable Strings section (it's last section of file):

NVIDIA_G84.DEV_0400.1   = "NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS"

nVidia is going to enable physX on all GeForce and Quadro GPUs (probably on Tesla too)... and it's working on some ATi GPUs too :o .

IIRC only G92 and above are currently supported by the beta driver via the modified inf, but the official release will include support for the G80 and above. Anything below the G80 and you're SOL. Remember that the PhysX drivers are completely useless unless you're running code written to use PhysX processing, e.g. GRAW2, UT3 or for running code written for CUDA enabled GPU's like F@H. Still, my CPU score in 3D Mark Vantage went from 4399 on just my X2 to 21318 with PhysX and points-per-day in F@H was 5012 with the 177.39. You also need to install the latest version of the PhysX drivers as well as the Nvidia beta driver and check the properties dialog to make sure its been enabled.

What is your GPU? It probably work only with G92 and newer (OG confirm that).

And maybe you have PhysX turned off. Check it in Control Panel, or use this 3rd party mini-aplication to check and switch PhysX acc. status:

http://downloads.guru3d.com/NV-PhysX-Tweaker-1.0-download-1984.html

If you get "Not Detected" try to reinstall PhysX drivers...

Not all 8800's are G92, only the newer ones. Older 8800's are G80. You can use GPUz to find out whats what. When I tested this driver last month lots of people were reporting that they could not get the G80 to work with the PhysX driver even with the modded inf, so support may not be written into the driver yet for the older cards. More than likely only the 8xxx, 9xxx, 2xx, Tesla and Quadro cards will be PhysX/CUDA enabled. A good time to consider an upgrade as Nvidia have apparently just slashed prices on the 8800GTX range.

That all looks correct. The PhysX properties is saying that PhysX is enabled for your GPU, and if you can run the demos then it is indeed installed and working correctly and the problem with Cell Factor is down to the game itself or how the game recognises the PhysX hardware. It may be that the game needs an update to be able to use GPU based physics.

So PhysX works properly... maybe you have still installed Ageia PhysX drivers -> uninstall. You can try to install nVidia PhysX SDK (i have problems with CellFactor: Revolution without that), here is a link:

http://developer.download.nvidia.com/PhysX/2.8.1/PhysX_2.8.1_SDK_Core.msi

And try to run CellFactor with administrator privileges. If this doesn't help, i don't know where the problem is :( :?

I can report I got the same issues. I got a box here with a 8800GT 512MB, GPU-Z says it's G92. All drivers installed, the control panel says NVidia Physx is enabled. But CellFactor won't run. I don't even know if 3DMark Advantage uses it properly.

One think I did notice was in the Physx control panel, under the tab Info it lists a list of installed engines (v2.8.1 being the newest), but the fields above (Physx Processor etc) it's blank, and it says no NVidia PhysX engine is installed... Is this only for the PCI card, or is something missing in the system? I tried the newest beta drivers (with PhysX support), I did the inf hack, and I installed the base drivers for PhysX. But that section is somewhat curious...

Cell Factor, Warmonger and most other PhysX titles checks for the presence of a PhysX card as opposed to the engines. So for the moment 3DMark Vantage, UT3 and some of the PhysX SDK samples only works. But I can _so_ recommend the PhysX mod for UT3, the Lighthouse level is just wicked fun when you can put a rocket in a wall and just pass through. :)
