SimpleBlog (Beta Release 1)

Post by mdogg »

A few days ago I was working on some software called SimpleBlog. It's blog software written in PHP. I thought I would post it here and see what you think.

You can download it here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2A2RCURE

Please reply with any requests or bugs that are in the software and I'll see what I can do. Thanks.

It's cool and it works but:
1. I get this on the bottom of the page:

Code: Select all

Warning: fopen(pages/) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in d:\public_html\ba_hosting\fifi\Blog\index.php on line 18

Warning: fread(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in d:\public_html\ba_hosting\fifi\Blog\index.php on line 19

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in d:\public_html\ba_hosting\fifi\Blog\index.php on line 20
2. There is no protection system. Everyone can create new posts...
3. You can not edit or delete the posts...

You need a server with PHP installed on it. Websites like RunHosting give you good deals for free.

Strange. That doesn't happen when I try to use it.

I know and I will add some sort of login system in later releases.
FiFi wrote:3. You can not edit or delete the posts...
I have programmed deleting into it so deleting posts will be present in the next release but I am yet to add editing support.

Edit: There is also a POSTDATA glitch sort-of thing where at the "Post saved successfully" screen, if you press Refresh, it will make a double post. I have also fixed this in the next release.

Well, it maybe a chmod problem and i cannot chmod on my server, because i get

Code: Select all

504 Command not implemented for that parameter
but it's more my problem

And i can offer translating the blog system into polish if you want

You might be getting that error because the hosting is restricted. You might have to create the folder yourself. CHMODing shouldn't be necessary since its a windows server. It doesn't have such tight permissions as linux.

I have been testing this out for the past 20 minutes, and have the following to say.

1) It works, as demonstrated at http://zimmy.co.uk/~zimmy/
2) It needs tighter security, most notiably the edit/create scripts inside a password protected directory (I could do this myself, don't know about anyone else). If you ever enable comments, it needs to restrict showing anything within <script> tags, a common security practice.
3) It needs a better theming system, such as ShittyCMS or phpBB, which both have seperate files for templates.
4) It's great for when I want to open vi and make a post
5) I have mirrored your archive because rapidwhateveryouused sucks dongs.

Available here as well: http://zimmy.co.uk/ftp-master/incoming/ ... g.v1b1.rar

Thanks that would be great. But wait until I release the final version because I don't plan on releasing the betas in more than one language.

Security is a major thing with these blog and forum systems so the common security practices as you mentioned wouldn't be a bad idea.

What kind of themes were you thinking of? Colour schemes or actual themes like seen in phpBB?

Yes, but what kind of theming?
