Actually, Bill Gates announced that he would only have a part-time role within Microsoft, leaving day to day operations management next month to begin a full-time career in philanthropy. He will still remain as both chairman and advisor. So yes, but no not really.

His last "full-day" is on Friday. I'm glad he is taking his money and donating it to those less fortunate because Bill Gates truly is one of the greatest people in the world. He's not like Exonn Mobile or whatever trying to make a profit with $4.00 a gallon (here in the US at least) and is taking the time to focus more on his donations. Steve Ballmer should do a good job with and without him since he has been there since the start, but things shouldn't be TOO different without Gates working full-time.

Reminder that Gates is still a pretty cool guy who donates a ton of money to charity, also this:

Steve Ballmer sounds more like a used car salesman than a Microsoft Executive.

Evidence of this can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGvHNNOLnCk
