Potential project?

Post by Deathwarder »

I wonder if it is possible for a group of programmers here(I would try to help) to get together and make a windows program mimicking leapard's spaces program. Its just an idea.

If it's just multiple desktops you're looking for, it's already possible. Desktop Sidebar has a panel for multiple desktops which works well, and Microsoft also have an XP PowerToy that does multiple desktops (although I remember trying that one and thinking it was not great). Does Spaces do more than that though? I haven't seen Spaces.

more than that, the full idea, with programs being attached to seperate spaces and such.

ok, well we need programmers, I know enough to do math and file manipulation in c++, but we probably need more than that. I am currently checking a few programs online to make sure that such a thing does not already exist.
EDIT:Ok, I have tried a few. The most functional is the powertoy virtual desktop, which is very similiar to spaces, but is lacking in a few key areas. First, no drag and drop functionality for interspace window transfer, and secondly, clicking on a program in the taskbar does not bring you to that program's space.

It might be as simple as reshacking the ms exe, or it might be as complicated as someone programming it from scratch. I wonder if someone could get some info into how the apple software was made.

sorry if this is too long between posts, but I think this has potential. The software is basicly multiple desktops, and you hit a button and it zooms out so you see all 4, and can easily and with a nice interface drag apps between them. It also allows for a transparent box showing which space you are in, and which you came from that fades away after a while, and if itunes is open in one space, and you try to open itunes, it brings you to that space.
