I use IDM as well, and I have to agree with this. I have used many other managers, and none of them have shown me any improvement.

With the addon flashgot, Get right will work in firefox & I think IDM automaticlly supports Firefox :D

Orbit Downloader is also a great download manager i used before i switched to IDM :)

test a few out, see which one suits you :)

I use Free Download Manager to download large files. It's simple and easy to use. But I was also planning on testing IDM so I'm gonna look if the features are better than FDM and I'll switch maybe.

I use Orbit Downloader and DownThemAll! as a Plug-in for Firefox. dta! is the manager which I use for Data Files / ISOs / stuff like that and Orbit Downloader (the germans know it) for the ZDF MediaThek. This is an online portal where all the TV Shows and Movies are free to watch for 1 Week, but there's no Download Button at all, so I just do it over Orbit Downloader.

I'm using FDM at the moment, but after what people are saying I'm going to give IDM a try too.

The only gripe I have with FDM is it messes up if I want to stream media from the net in WMP.

IDM all the way. It works good and integrates with firefox. It also works good for downloading flash videos and mp3s embedded in flash objects.

I used to use GoZilla, then GetRight, then I tried out FlashGot but couldn't stand how complicated it was. Try out OrbitDownloader, it's free, no adware, has accelerated downloading through opening multiple links to the same server, let's you add multiple sources, and it works with FF and IE. And it comes with a nifty little utility that will let you download embedded movies from webpages, although this part doesn't work 100% of the time.

DownloadThemAll is good if you want to download a bunch of files from one webpage, I use it all the time.

I like FlashGet. It's useful and improve your faster speeds.

FlashGet 1.7.3, the newer versions apparently have spyware, so I'm not going to even try using it, could be false positives but I doubt it. 1.7.3 is definitely clean though.

If you even try to use FlashGet on the BA server you will likely get a ban since it, by default, opens 10 FTP connections, which is banned on the BA FTP.

Maybe GetZilla is works. Unless FlashGet are not working or ban the FTP.

If you using GetZilla, you can get full access from FTP.

FlashGet has spyware.

I use Free Download Manager, it's not too bad...

However if you want a powerful downloader (at the expense of segmented downloading and a GUI), get Wget. It is great. Put it in your path, then when you need to download something, open a command prompt and type

wget -c (url)

..and the file will download. If the connection breaks and you want to resume the download, run the command again. It supports proxies too by running SET HTTP_PROXY=http://proxy_address:port.

I use Orbit Downloader as well, I also like for the fact it contains Grab++,l which is handy for some sites :)
