I use AVG personally. I managed to get my hands on the professional version from a computer magazine offer. Its found quite a few things but mostly harmless looking key generators I have.

I also recommend AVG. I use free edition, and every virus is stopped in time, and healed as it must be!

I'm pretty much one of the very few people here who would recommend Symantec Antivirus Client editions. They're hassle free, look great and find everything. They are a tad bloated... but so is Vista.

I don't use any antivirus as i never need it, I know that sounds stupid but i don't ever come across anything dangerous, i can if i try though :)

I have used many in the past, The best has to be NOD32 and the smart scan feature is fast and effective, i like it because of it quick cleaning strategy

NOD32 has gotten me through some rough times, and it doesn't use much resources.

I use AVG 8.0 and Avast 4, not on the same machine though, and both are great in my opinion.

Oh, I have Norton Internet Security '05 and '07 legally on disk and I wouldn't recommend it, its too slow...

The Norton package from '04 '05 '06 are not the best AV, when 1 virus hits you, you better reinstall the whole computer.

I use AVG 7.5 Free.
Detected some virusses that are not detected by Symantec 10.1 and 10.2.

For businesses i reccommend Sophos, updates every 5 minutes and scans for ALL kind of virusses.
Virus/trojan/malware/spyware/adware/machnitosch virusses on windows pc's.

And this is avaible for:
- Windows 95
- Windows NT 4
- Windows 98
- Windows ME
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows Vista
- All linux ditributsions (serveral kind of packages avaiblible)
- Macintosh OS X

And more.

But this is only for businesses, but you can get an Trial for 30 days and after 30 days, just register again, and again 30 days.

Avaible packages:
- Standalone
- Network distributed

AVG across the line, running on my server and automatically distributing and managing all my clients. Works like a charm.

I have tried NOD32 and Avast among others, but I can't find anything so easy and powerful to use than AVG. Symantec (not the consumer Norton cr!p) is pretty decent for large networks, but for single users I would recommend AVG or Nod32.

I'd take this opportunity to stress the importance of behaviour as being much more important than what AV you have. I run 'bareback', and just stay away from anything remotely dodgy. Don't open exe's, pif's, bat's, or any other form of executable file unless you're completely sure you trust where it came from. Use Opera, stay away from dodgy sites. Don't open attachments, even from people you know! Also among the worst offenders are cracked software and keygens. Support shareware people of the internets.
