BetaArchive's own IRC server on the way

Post by Andy »

Hi guys,

Koptor has very kindly agreed to set up an IRC server for us. He is currently in the process of installing it on my server for everyone. I will release the logon info as soon as its complete.

What do you think? Comments welcome.

I think that a BetaArchive IRC server would be nice.

I was told it would be set up by tonight... but Koptor seems to have either died or is foaming at the mouth like a dog with rabies. I havent heard from him for the last 4 hours. Maybe he has given up

As I said in the poll, I'd happily be an IRCOp on the server because I do have experience and expertise on IRCd's and anope services config files.

The problem is getting anope installed. Koptor is having issues with doing it. Ill keep at him.

I should mention that the IRC is online, but not everything is installed and configured yet so expect it to be a bit 'flakey' until its done. You might get signed off etc while its being configured. Details will be posted in the new IRC forum (when I create it!). Only registered members will be able to view it.

I personally recommend a build a X-Chat for whatever operating system you are on. mIRC is good, but it nags you to buy it every time you open it (assuming you didn't already "acquire" it) and it's kind of featureless.
The above post is brought to you by me not listening in class and posting here instead. :D
