Basically my iMac has no CD-Rom ... so I used an external one and an external PSU (just a molex cable from another PC :P) to power the CDRom and HDD. However my iMac g3 Tray Loader wont power the HDD now. :S

I plugged in a little extension cable thingy for the molex connection to the HDD... and then the iMAc went off...and I turned it back on, and it didnt turn back on (this was before I got the CDrom going, btw.)

I would unplug the extension cable and the iMac would power up again... =\

I think this has been happening for a while - no wonder I havent been able to get an OS to boot :S

Might just be a loose connection... might be the whole thing is ready to burst into flames... I dunno, can anyone shed some light on this?

Sorry if this doesn't help because I'm not entirely sure what you can do in this situation. However if you need a CD drive for something, you can use an external one (connected through USB). Then if you want to install an OS, you can put the install disc in the USB CD drive, hold the Option/Alt key on boot and it will appear in the boot select screen. That's how I installed an OS on my Power Mac G4 before getting the disc drive working.

Ignore the cdrom part... I dont know why but my hdd wont power up now and an 'extension cable' just wont let the mac boot.
