I am having some problems with a friends USB webcam, after plugging it in Windows doesn't pick up the drivers or anything,

It is a Labtec Pro Webcam, the motherboard is a Asus model supporting an AMD Athlon XP processor, and is based on a VIA chipset, but his previous PC was based on VIA but I am confused as it worked before (apparently Labtec has issues with VIA, SIS and ALI chipsets) I dunno if I should get him a USB PCI card that isn't based on those chipsets or what, but what should I do?

Thanks.

Do you get the hardware inserted noise? If so, then the pc is picking it up and its a driver issue.

Yep I get that but strange thing is I followed the directions, I left it unplugged during installation, and after I plugged it in, it just won't set it up, I am guessing I should uninstall the driver, and reinstall it as well as research more about the issues circulating Labtec Webcams and USB based on the VIA Chipsets.
