Microsoft patent prevents skipping of ads with DRM

The patent will stop users from skipping ads on protected video content by

using DRM to prevent any sort of playback the appropriate number of ads have

been watched . (IMG:http://images.joejoe.org/wmp11.png) If implemented this

procedure would potentially allow TV operators to provide downloadable ad

supported content with superior video quality than is found in streaming content

without buffering in the middle of a TV show.

Originally submitted last June , the patent has yet to be implemented but could

be used in a future Windows Media or Zune based video service allowing

ad-subsidized downloads; if granted, the patent may affect attempts by

competing companies to integrate ads into their own downloadable content

and force them to revert to ad-free but paid downloads
