all you have to do is let microsoft monitor your pc useage for three months, they say they dont collect personal information ( yeah and im the pope) you must be a us citizen, be over 18 and own the pc that would be monitored: http://wfp.microsoft.com/Welcome.aspx

That's OK. Even if Microsoft didn't stop it, you still wouldn't be able to do it because you're under 18.

they say that will not collect information about what sites you visit ? they are supposed to be studying your pc useage habits, not what sites you go to or what forms your fill out?

They watch your every move, and they 'reserve the right to take legal action' on anything they find you do. I wouldn't have done it, MS would just jail me :(

Ouch, if you decided to hop on the torrent machine and download some of their software then.

Heres what you could do: Install it on a VM of XP and then make sure to turn it on and off once a week, and do a little browsing on it. Problem solved!

EDIT: 666th Post

They probably can get a hold of the hard disk or CD-ROM vender ID on the virtual drive. They identify as "VMWare" + something (if I'm not mistaken) and tell you you cannot participate.

Even so - If you're afraid of them getting you for illegal software on your computer, what's stopping you from downloading either copy of (if not both) Office 2007 or Vista Ultimate. You might be safer, too.

They'd never do you for running illegal software by spying on your computer - it would be very hard for them to prove anything (even if they could, it would take a lot more in time and legal fees than it would be worth, the only enforcement action they ever take is against people manufacturing/selling fake MS products), it would be an invasion of privacy if not in the EULA and therefore illegal, and it would do a lot more damage to their reputation than they would gain from possible fines etc.

Sounds alot like the Free PC offers about 10 year ago, where you had to "use their IP" and be foulded with ads.
