In 2000, we bought a Alpha-based Compaq server for $400, then 1 year later, we sold that and bought our P4 (P4 Willamette, 1.4GHz, 512mb PC133, 40GB EIDE HD, 24x CD RW, nvidia TNT series 16mb Video card, and Red Hat Linux 7.0 Gold) for $500. My dad explained to me that the p4, while costing signifigantly less than our p90 did 8 years ago, performed about 16million more calculations.

I bought a no-name PC in 2001 with AMD Duron 800 MHz, 128 MB RAM (wow!) 16 MB onboard graphic, 10 GB HDD, 48x CD-ROM drive. It cost me 5000 DKR. (476 £) without monitor, and Windows.

Our Gateway Select 1200CS back in June 2001. I really thought it was a bad idea to buy it then, but our decripit 1997-era Windows 95 machine was failing us.

It was an AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 20 GB harddrive, and ran on Windows Mistake Editio- err, ME. Came with a printer and digital camera (crappy Jamcam that takes only 8 640x480 photos). Cost us $1300. And then in October, Windows XP comes out.

Needless to say, we're still running the ME machine today as the primary PC, but it's running 2000 Server now :D
