Hey folks,
as I never have been that much active in the scene, probably there´s even no one remembering my name.
I joined OSBA sometime in 2004 (I guess - but might be 2005), because I was particularly interested in Whistler and Longhorn Betas.
I really liked the place and the huge resources there, so I decided to donate a small amount of money (only 5 bucks I think).
Then after a time I got an invitation to Glenda Corp. and took it - especially, as I didn´t even have any idea, that there´s another faction of OSBA online.
(Would anyone mind to tell me the whole story in short or hint me to a posting, that gives the explanation? Searching for OSBA didn´t turn out to be that much of a success)

And now I tried to find out, what´s happened to Glenda Corp, when I found out about this forum. Nice.

So, that´s how I got here. And if there cannot be an exception to the 1-month-idle-rule, I´ll probably be out again fast. Well, let´s see.

Best regards
Jens

OSBA forum database leaked.
http://www.betaarchive.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=231&highlight=osba

Quote:
PTCFast2 (The Administrator that intentionally caused OSBA to crash in October last year) has finally leaked the OSBA database from October - Link below.

The reprocussions from the leak are as of yet unknown, however at least two more splinter forums have been created from the code, fragmenting the community even further.

PTCFast2's motives for releasing the leak seem to be to gain added attention, however we cannot be certain. It is known that the leak itself and being openly homosexual are both signs that PTCFast2's morales are clearly not of the quality of the general beta community.

Members from BetaArchive should be careful when deciding to use the code for any purpose, as new forums will not survive, and will most likely cause more hostility within the beta community.

http://osba.r-type.ca is where a lot of the Ex OSBA members who are not in Glendacorp hang.

OSBA Database user passwords cracked.
http://www.betaarchive.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=235&highlight=osba

Quote:
OSBA's database was cracked earlier today by PTCFast2 and another person, in an attempt at stealing R-TYPE and Glendacorps user information.

The cracking effort led by PTCFast2 uncovered at least the passwords of: Grabberslasher's password (however this has changed since), Erik/EBD's password, Zammis's password, and possibly KenOath's.

The Control Panel for OSBA.RTYPE was also hacked into. That site http://osba.r-type.ca/ has been taken offline for an unknown length of time.

I have tested a stolen password, and used it successfully. This leak is very real. PTCFast2 and another person have also launched thier own OSBA clone, thier forum called "OSBetaSpace" is down at the moment, but definately log in and have a chat (http://osbs.mtxstudios.com/index.php) as soon as the forum goes online.

You are all advised to change your passwords if they are currently the same as they were in October 2005. You can thank another person and PTCFast2 for this privacy issue, and for the original leak of the forum database.

To view if your password has been cracked recently, go to http://milw0rm.com/cracker/list.php, and look for your password. (usernames are not visible, so you cannot use this list to find other users passwords).

Posting a link or method on how to do similar attacks will result in an instant warn. BetaArchive will not be affected by this leak as our site includes none of the stolen database (unless of course your password is the same).

Cracking is thought to have began nearly a day ago from this post, and there is a possibility that a more recent database has also leaked.

OSBetaArchive is reborn under a new name. (Glenda Corp.)

Jens, Welcome. I hope you enjoy your stay!

The 1 month rule is only enforced if the information you posted was pointless or was something like "thanks!" or "great!". If you have something worthwhile to say, you won't be penalised for that (you may even be thanked ;)). However the rule was introduced because the huge majority of posts made to older topics were pointless and/or useless.

Thanks for the fast response.
Even if this might be offending (not bad for the third post, eh?), I'd like to leave two comments:

I don't have any idea, what the author wants to tell by referring to homosexuality. Even though being heterosexual, I certainly wouldn't want to be part of a "qualitative beta community", that seems to discriminated people based on their sexual preferences.

On the other side I never understood (and still don't), what people are expecting, if they post download resources in their forums. Of course there will be leechers. It's like giving out ice for free on a hot summer day - this will attract nice and generous people, but also (and maybe mainly) people just interested in getting some nice refreshment.

Best regards
