OK, today MSN7.5 asked me to upgrade to Live Messenger before continue using, which made me pretty annoyed cause Live Messenger is buggy as hell and that's why I still use 7.5.
OK, anyone know how to login with 7.5 without upgrading?

Live messenger is pretty stable actually, I thought exactly the same as you. The first versions were bad but they quickly fixed it. I've not had WLM crash much since I started using it a few months ago.

If you download aPatch you can remove the ads and any other unwanted features to make it more like 7.5, which is what I did.

Well I've fixed it...Using eXeScope to modify the version string and cheated the server.

The reason I refuse to "upgrade" to 8.X is these major problems:

1. Login speed become much slower: On the same computer, same net cable and same moment, 7.5 only takes 5 secs to login, while 8.1 takes more than 25 secs.
2. Missing screen name: Screen name usually become your Email address for no reason.
3. Missing contacts: Some of the contacts disappear or can't add for no reason.

I'm currently using 8.1 and have never experienced any of those problems. I didn't start using it until 8.1 either.

Login times are actually a lot lower on WLM, it logs in in around 5 seconds as you state with 7.5. Offline messages however is a handy feature that WLM brings.

You should do what I do, use it for a week and see how it goes. Thats how I managed to make the switch.

I hate WLM 8.1! It works VERY bad for me! I'm using now 8.5 Version 2008. No problems!

I have had the same issues and was quite angry ( :x ) at Microsoft for doing this. Although now I'm using Windows Live Messenger, with thanks to Andy for showing me how to get rid of the rubbish, its not like 100% bad but I would have prefered none of this to have happened so I could continue to use MSN Messenger 7.5

No, that would be problematic
as Microsoft shut down the old server, for security and also because
Windows NT/9x are the only OSes that need them, and they are no longer supported.

Maybe you could find the original spec for MSN 1.0 and write
a proxy to convert it to MSNP6, like when the first leaks of WLM 8.0 came out.
Nobody should put that much effort into it though ;)

Lol, it looked cool, very simple and it could connect to AIM :D

Prehaps someone could create a reverse-engineered server, for fun?

Sounds good, your own messenger server for MSN Messenger 1.0, I suppose you could decompile it and then rebrand it to make your own messenger program...

Yes, I can personally confirm this aswell. Only thing is that in Win2000 (and most probably other modes aswell) compatability mode, there is the old 16 colour tray icon, but it changes when there is a notification window open to the normal one. BTW, I don't really see this as a problem
