I bought this car just over 5 months ago, twas a bit of a wreck when I bought it, but it only cost £350.

Tech Specs:
Make /Model : Vauxhall Astra MK3 Facelift
Year of Reg : 1996
Trim Level : Merit (or in otherwords - very basic)
Engine Size / Type : 1400cc ecotec petrol
Toys : Power Steering / Cassette Radio Player. No fancy electrics :(

Rebuilt it myself over the last 5 months and is now in superb working order.

Changes Made to the Car:
Engine top-end rebuild - Didn't need doing, just for peace-of-mind
Cambelt - Again, just for peace of mind
New Exhaust
New Brakes all round (The lot, not just pads etc...)
Thermostat - Did need doing LoL
New window mechanism in driver's door - Old one had seized
New Clutch
Accelerator Cable
New Vauxhall badge for the front of the car - Old on had gone walkies
New offside door mirror
New Plastic Bumpers - Old ones were scuffed / bent etc...
A few bulbs here and there
Still to do : A bit of rust on the rear offside wheel arch, will get round to it in the next month
Ohh...and the little orange monkey on the dash :)

Total cost of the project (exc. tax / insurance) : £942.44

Unfortunately I have no pics of the car when I got it, but here are some from today :)

EDIT : No laughing at the License / Number plate :P - Well you can if you really want

Cheers

Sorry but I'm gonna have to laugh at the number plate

Nice car though. Certainly looks in better nick than my Pug does.

erm...why is it fun to crash????

I can't see how destroying any car would be fun....just think of all the effort, all the experiences that car has been through and you show it no respect at all by deliberately crashing it??? Makes no sense to me.

Also the Focus' are nice, but far too expensive. I generally stick with Vauxhalls / Renaults.

I would also lik to point out that this isn't my main car and was only a project car. but I'm getting attached to it! My Main car is 2000 "w" reg renault Laguna

I drive a 1991 Buick Riviera. It's not a grandpa car at all.

3800 3.8L V6 which makes 170hp and 220ft-lbs, all through the 4t60 automatic transaxle!

Turbo-hydramatic FTW!!!!!

Seriously, this car is cool as heck!

You have a very great car. The only one I see in France have a lot of kilometres and yours is in a great condition ! That's funny because in france we have the same car but named "Opel Astra"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Astra

For me, I've no interest to buy a car. So many people drop their one ;-)
With my sister, we had .. many cars (this listing is for 2 years)
- a 1994 Renault Clio (but was broken, the police keep it)
- a 1972 Renault 4 "The 4L". Abandoned because you put your feets on the ground
- a 1984 Renault 5 "Le Car" (my sister crashed up this one)
- a 1980 Renault 5 "Le car" (the car on the picture, waiting for the police because cannot start the engine, too many problems)
- a 1979 Renault 5 "le car" bought 20Euros on ebay
- a 1988 Renault Super 5 (broke up)
- a 198x Renault Super 5 abandoned because to many problems, but a great engine
- a 198x Peugeot 405 ( more than 400 000kkm/248 548miles abandoned in a farm)
- a 1993 Ford Escort (too many problems but still working)
- a 1989 Peugeot 205 ( 378 000 kkms / 236 121miles, too many problems)

A renault Le Car or SuperCar (the US name, in france we call it Renault 5)

Yes, I think the Vauxhall name is used only in the UK. Elsewhere they are the same cars but badged as Opels. Some of the models used to have different names eg the Corsa was called Nova in the UK and the Astra was called Kadett in Europe, but then they standardised the model names across the Vauxhall and Opel brands.

yes Vauxhall anme is only used in the UK. We have the odd opel over here too.

As far as I'm aware all the Astras that are in existance (upto mk4) were all made in Vauxhall's Ellesmere Port Factory here in the UK. I know that some are made elsewhere (Luton + other places in Europe)
