Topic says so.

I would like to give Longhorn a try before I mess things up.

You can not install 9.0c because you need SP2 for this. Maybe 5048 has 9.0c. I have never look to DXDIAG.

I have look now. 5048 has 9.0c.

I know you could hack around installing 9.0b on LH 4053, so it makes sense that something similar could be done to 9.0c on other longhorn builds. I was going to put 9.0c on Longhorn 4074, but a driver error has caused a problem to the point it wont boot in safe mode, so ill have to reinstall it. :(

SP2 for DX9.0c? never! It still runs under Windows 98 FE and Windows NT.

It doesn't. Anyway, usually with longhorn, you run the installer, takes 1 seconds, and says its installed (on 4074, anyway), when in actual fact its not done anything. Apparently, you may get it to work if you extract the installer using WinRAR, install all the .inf's and then copy the d3d8.dll and the d3d9.dll files from a working XP installation with DX9.0c. Remember, this is untested, but it worked with Build 4053 and DX9.0b, so in theory, it might work with 4074. Personally, i'd try it with a VM first.

He means XP's predecessor, NT 5.0.
