he meant 244 companies got a copy and is going to sell private copy of vista

I don't think its true, the 244 copies were bought by richer people and the people selling private copies could download them off the internet and started selling them. Trust me, they're problaby not companies, but just normal people like us who decided to burn their own copies, go on thestreetsand start selling them. That's why so many priate copies were sold.

Yes - often they even use the wrong logos for the version or have version names that don't exist, for instance:

There they have the jigsaw logo from the Office 2000 box, and they are saying that it's "Office 2001 XP"! (taken from MS's How To Tell gallery of fakes) I've also seen Chinese "Vista Professional" etc.

With the price of Vista what it is it's no wonder they've sold little of it over
there, I believe they're just pricing themselves above what the average
Joe would consider an OS to be worth, basically making alternatives even
more popular...

I am tempted to post an .NFO of an illegal copy of Windows XP which could be downloaded for 0.00USD. It would see that the greatest competition for Chinease pirates are, indeed, there own kind...

Agreed, but I bet the average Chinese Joe would rather buy the pirated copy from a market on the street than download it...

Warez sites are very popular in China though....
Just by a Google search and you'll find heaps of results
But most of them have broken links, viruses, trojans, spywares...etc
Therefore downloading needs luck...
But if you're lucky enough you can even find HTTP (yes, HTTP) download for those OSes.
