Which version are you trying to install? Maybe 2.0 doesn't work on Windows 95, I'd try 1.5. (I know, the error message says something different but that's not the case here.) Also, try to use a folder name that doesn't contain any spaces.

I think 2.0 is not supported on 95; whether or not it can be made to work I don't know. It does work on NT4 though. 1.5 was supported I think (or at least on the later releases of 95)

You apparently need to apply some updates to Windows 95 to get FF1.5 to run - see here - have you installed any patches on your 95 installation? It looks like you've still got the original IE on it - updating IE to 5.5 updates a lot of Windows as well. What release of 95 is it? It looks like FF2.0 won't work on 95 or 98 First Edition at all.

Try running Office 2007 or Group Policy :D

Anyways, have you considered downgrading your Firefox or running K-Meleon instead?

I just tried installing Firefox 2.0 in Windows 95 B to have a go myself - I didn't get the disk space error (I chose standard installation, which might be the difference) and it installed, but as soon as it runs it appears to open correctly but then the illegal operation error comes up, referencing kernel32.dll - I noticed it's a different version of the classic "illegal operation" dialog too, I don't think I've ever seen one with the sentence about restarting the computer before:

Makes me wonder if someone could fix FF2 for Windows 95, as it does look very close to working - it's fully loaded and you can see from the status bar that it's even started to load a website. Firefox 1.5.11 works fine though; I reckon you just need to update some Windows components, as stated in the article linked above - my installation has IE5.5 and Office 2000 on it, both of which update plenty of core components. I don't have the Desktop Update installed - presumably that doesn't update kernel32.dll to be more like Windows 98 and so let FF2 run properly? (it does certainly update quite a bit of stuff)

Would you write about this story? :)

btw I wonder if those computers using Win95 are still being used in my junior high school... :)
To me it'll probably like hell to use OSes before Win2000 now...(Except to play those 9x only games)
