Im trying to use a computer based, downloaded sound effect processor to use with my guitar. I have tried 2 different programs (guitar fx, and guitar fx box) and they both keep coming up with the same problem, which is that when it is plugged in, it says there is nothing plugged in, yet when i listen to it in the input sound option, it works, when i use sound recorder, it works. It just these programs.

Any help out there.

Also, i am running Windows 7, and i also had the same problem with vista. I am using an Acer aspire 5720 laptop.

Thanks

Audacity has no VST support by default. There is a VST enabler but it's crap. What you need is some purpose oriented patch software with real fx support, which can be quite complicated to use. Check out Plogue Bidule, it will run virtually any VST fx plugin going and sounds like exactly what you're looking for. The free version should suit your needs just fine, if not buy it or just download it from somewhere *hehe* .

The audio stack was completely rewritten in Vista which caused a lot of compatability issues with many audio based applications (as well as hardware), especially those that are production based. Most have been updated since but there are still the odd exceptions. Might want to check for updated versions, if none exists then an alternative or downgrade back to XP might be your only options. I know quite a few people who still use XP for production for this very reason.
