You will need compression software like 7-Zip or WinRar

Make a folder in your user folder (C:/Documents and Settings/YourName and name it whatever you like

Get the files you want to hide and add them to a archive and put archive in that folder

Get a JPG image and name it something short like img.jpg

Now go and run CMD.EXE and CD to what you named your folder

In the command prompt enter COPY /B img.jpg + archive.rar secretimage.jpg

Image

Rename Secret Image to Secret Image.rar and extract

Image

When you want it hidden as a image rename it to Secret Image.jpg

The Image with the file in it doesn't have to be called Secret Image
The archive can be a Zip Rar or 7Z

Ah, this one is a classic. One question though: anyone notice a file limit? Is there a certain size past which attempting to open the picture as a picture, or attempting to preview in the folder, causes a crash?

why not just create the rar file, then right click on the rar file and rename the .rar extension to .jpg, then when you want to open the file you just change .jpg back to rar.

Two lefts and a diagonal sidestep from where you are.

because this way, the RAR/ZIP/7z, ETC... file is appended to the end of the picture file, thus making the picture file still visible if viewed in Paint or Photoshop, and the files in the compressed file being visible if you open it in 7zip or winRAR... so if the compressed file is small enough, it is virtually undetectable...

Well, It would be obvious if you had a 200 mb jpeg that was a tiny picture ;). but yes it is a good way to hide files. Make the image hidden and encrypted and no one will ever find it ;).

the reason this works is because jpeg files expect to start with a jpeg header and ignore all bytes after a certain point. conversely, rar files (also works with zips) ignore all bytes until a rar header.

This only works for certain sizes, though. For instance, i think the jpg can't be bigger than the rar. Or, perhaps it's the other way around..
