Quick question, I got an invite to the beta today, but I'm already in. Is the unique invitation ID tied to my email address at all?

(btw, before anyone asks for it, I've got a close friend who is first in line, my apologies )

@dirtwarrior, I've got to try that sometime.

It is a copy of Server 2003 for SBS - look in the Windows 2003 folder on the WHS CD and double-click Setup.exe - you'll see the installer for Server 2003 for SBS. There's also a lot of Server 2003 for SBS branding during the installation. WHS at the moment is basically a copy of Server 2003 with the WHS components installed on top of it, and a few of the Server 2003 bits deleted (or at least hidden).

Will the software be sold on its own when it comes out?

I don't think so, I think you'll be able to buy the complete Home Server package when it's finished, consisting of Server 2003 and the WHS tools, just as it will be the case with Centro...

I wasn't sure because thats not what thisarticle says.
The WHS software itself will not be sold as a retail product but will be available to consumers later this year in the form of hardware appliances such as Hewlett-Packard's MediaSmart Server, also announced at CES. Selling this product as an appliance only is in some significant ways a great idea, though final pricing will be the determining factor in purchase decisions for many people.

On the Connect site it says "most consumers will ultimately buy a Home Server as an integrated hardware/software solution", which suggests that it will also be available separately to hardware, but they expect most people to buy it as OEM software pre-installed on a home server device.
