REDMOND, Wash. — July 22, 2009 — Microsoft Corp. today announced the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, the next versions of its flagship desktop and server operating systems. With the completion of this development phase, industry partners are readying products in time for the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 worldwide general launches. Windows 7 will be generally available to customers around the world on October 22, and Windows Server 2008 R2 will be generally available on or before that date. As always, current customers of the Windows Volume Licensing program, Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) subscribers and TechNet subscribers will be among the first to get customer access to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 in the coming weeks.

So do we know which build it is for sure now? Is there a 16386 as rumored even tho denied by many? I'm thinking Windows 7 Build 7600.16385 is RTM.

I can't wait to get my hands on it, especially since I should be able to get it for free through MSDN AA. :D I have no idea when it gets to MSDN AA though.

According to Mary-Jo Foley at ZDNet 7600.16385 is the RTM build

Edit: Its official, 7600.16385 *is* the RTM 100% sure.

This is what Wzor had already said a couple days ago.

It's good to get more official confirmation, though - it's not like just because Wzor says it, it's absolute gold.

August 6th.

But the administrators have to add it to e-academy. We don't get access like those of you with MSDN subscriptions do. So it pretty much gets added when they feel like it.

So, we (TechNet/MSDN subscriber) will still have to wait until August 8th? Damn, that's long...

Yeah, but still long. I would like to have the official ISO image before then. I just received news from a Microsoft staff that they'll be getting the ISOs on 3rd August, 3 days faster than anyone else.

August 6th, not August 8th. Only two days, I know, but it's two days better. ^^

I have extracted the "pkeyConfigData" Part from the "pkeyconfig.xrm-ms" (RTM-Build) and found this:

Code:
<pkc:ActConfigId>{8dffd6e4-0497-4c35-b7d7-e47cf464cf30}</pkc:ActConfigId>
  <pkc:RefGroupId>170</pkc:RefGroupId>
  <pkc:EditionId>Enterprise</pkc:EditionId>
  <pkc:ProductDescription>Windows 7 Enterprise Retail:TB:Eval</pkc:ProductDescription>
  <pkc:ProductKeyType>Retail:TB:Eval</pkc:ProductKeyType>

So there could be a Enterprise Eval avaible in the Future?!?

All Vista's are trials unless you enter a serialnumber and then activate.

But in Vista Enterprise Service Pack 2 it says during install that it is an trial.
Because it needs to be activated with KMS or MAK serial number.

Then don't buy it. No one is forcing you to buy Windows 7 if you think Microsoft is scamming you. Just use Windows Vista or Windows XP or Mac OSX or Linux.

Or DOS, Unix, ReactOS etc. :) Why can't people understand that Windows is NOT necessary to live? You don't even have to use computer.

Perhaps because they're failed?

Even Im a Microsoft fan, but Linux has only failed in their UI. As for ReactOS - I will stick with the proprietary, closed-source version of Windows. Too many compatibility issues. I doubt that a Windows App Emulator not written by Microsoft will never be 100% compatible with ALL apps. Linux, is a good operating with a bad "face" (UI). If Microsoft didnt have such a huge market share and application base, and Linux had a better way of installing apps and performing administrative actions, Id say they'd be pretty much equal.

Back on topic:

Will Windows Server 2008 R2 hit the market the same time as 7, and will it hit TechNet/MSDN the same time, also?

Reason: Might get me banned for starting a flame war.

Thanks :D
