I bet we are going to activate Windows 7 with the frankenbuild just like the "good" old vista days. Then after that, Microsoft is going to release an update to automatic update which disable the frankenbuild.

(I'm only saying this cause when i started using w7 at b7022, only 32bit had leaked. Two days later, x64 leaked. Oh the irony !!)

X86 is a dying breed.

You have any idea how many million of x86 PC's there are out there?

If MS decide to make Windows 8 x64 all they will be doing is loosing tens of millions

I am not going to lie to you. Yes there are hundred of thousands of computers that only support x86, but it is time to let go. You can't dragged on support for a dying architect for ever.

So, will this be only on the M1 VIP? Is there no chance of it being on the OTHER M1?

and MS will save millions of dollars not producing a x86 version and focus on x64 bugs only.

If your computer don't support x64 by 2011, it's time to replace your machines. The last x86 only CPU produced are the AMD sempron (early models), Intel Core's and Pentium D's. Those are 3 to 4 years old now. By 2011, they will be 5 to 6 years old and won't be good enough for Windows 8 even if they supported x86.

What they should do for Windows 8 is make them as they were, x86 and x64, but market and sell only the 64-bit version. They should offer a swap program for those who have x86 to get the discs if they need to, and they should offer it via OEM channels.

Or, they could make a "Windows 8 Fundamentals for Legacy PCs" version, and give that a limited run.

It's Fundamentals, not Foundations.

Then it's the Pentium 4's without the EM64T (now know as Intel 64) are the last 32bit batch. If you are using one of those, you might as well save some electricity and promote a greener world by getting ride of it.

Not the last, mobile editions of the Intel Atom processor don't feature Intel 64, either.

Well it doesn't support Vista, 7 or 8. I think netbooks will have Windows XP for a while now, until they produce a thin client version of vista/7.

Any Pentium 4 before Prescott doesn't support EM64T.
There is also the Core Duo which was release after Pentium 4 but doesn't not support EM64T.
Intel should make mobile Atom support x64 so microsoft could move on. A small company like VIA could make fit their 64 bit VIA Nano into netbook after all.

Windows 7's actually designed and optimized to run on Intel Atom netbooks. They can be licensed with Starter Edition.

this is @ Day2Die too

the D was moved to 65 nm years ago ( core2 architecture ) and is still produced
its the BUDGET CPU.. :P

also low cost light laptops arnt gonna be x64 for another 2 years...

x86 will be special order next go around... win 8 because yes it will be mostly replaced thanks to OEMs selling people more crap then they need...

hell MOST people DONT need more then 4 gig of ram... the power user is the one who needs more then that
stop trying to say the power user is more impotent because they arnt every user is equal

Actually Pentium D (netburst architecture) was discontinue in 2008. The low cost (budget) version of core 2 duo is pentium dual-core (core microarchitecture).
