I've heard that they already put the new icons and sounds in it.
Would be awesome if they leak it.

What icons and sounds haven't been replaced in any of the 72xx builds (aside from the desktop background)? I probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference. Though, AFAIK, they have already all been replaced.

Why would they replace them, this far in to development (the RTM branch), especially when they've already been replaced?

Arghhhhhh.

I've found a picture of an e-mail between a user and some MSFT employee (on the neowin.net forums) that its working with the design team or some bullsh*t like that. And the employee said that the design is not finished and it's coming in the RTM.
Tons of Vista icons are still present and need to be replaced!

Now I can't find it anymore :(
Seems that they deleted the thread.

But I assure you that I'm not talking sh*t. That's what the email said.

They did replace some icons at the very last minute in Vista's development as well, all the ones in the "green translucent plastic" style (Media Player, Windows Marketplace, Windows Mail etc) were ones that came in one of the very last pre-release builds.

Or 7819 (519 from 7) like 6519 did from Vista.

6519 was hardly the first 7 build. There's been the odd 64xx screenshot, like the 6471 Screenshot in the Mix09 Video. Microsoft apparently reserved just 20 builds after Vista, up to 6020 for service packs/hotfixes/etc. No doubt they jumped through the builds early on though, Probably starting with 61xx and jumping forward regularly.

You're wrong. The very first known build of Windows 7 (actually, it's Blackbomb) is 6.1.5025.winmain.050111-2030. The PDF file with complete list of known builds till 7068 you may find here: http://wzor.net/page/history-3.html under entry from March, 25.

Hmm, no. All the builds up to 5729 on that list are Windows Vista builds. Just compare the tag of build 5112 or 5129 from that list with Vista... they are identical. Also, even if build 5025 would have been a Windows 7 build, it wouldn't have been called "Blackcomb" - Microsoft used the Vienna codename in 2005...

As major feature work on Windows Vista wound down in early 2006, Blackcomb was renamed Vienna.[5] - from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Development_of_Windows_7

That indicates till 2006 Windows that is now 7 was Blackbomb. Or the article contains wrong information.

My bad, I thought it had already been "renamed" in 2005. Nevertheless, the builds up to 5729 are Vista builds :P

SP1 would likely be 7301 and SP2 would be 7302, just like with Vista. I don't see why they would push the build number up 100 builds. They've never done that before...

If you checked the reference site (click on the [5] in the wiki page), the site will lead you to http://www.winsupersite.com/faq/windows_7.asp which is a trusted source.

No, it will be whatever it will be.

The digit in the thousandths place isn't indicative of the "version." It's just a build number and nothing more. Don't read too much into it.

Windows Vista's final build number came close to 6000 so they round it up. It just so happens that they were so close to 6000. Just like how Windows 7's build number is close to 7300, so I wouldn't be surprised if they rounded it up to 7300. XP's build number is 2600, which breaks your reasoning.

Maybe the next version of Windows will be 8xxx, but it could also just as likely be 9xxx or whatever. Microsoft just leaves off where they previously left off.
