Gezz I haven’t even downloaded the 7231!
Microsoft is giving away to many builds now; I guess it makes it up for those nonexistent CTPs on the beta program, they are giving a lot of builds (not as many as in Longhorn/Vista) but damn never this fast…

If this are real leaks by others and not Microsoft then Microsoft Security has been deleted/killed/hacked/destroyed.

And if that really happen , then I just wonder
WHERE ARE ALL THE LONGHORN BUILDS!

Microsoft doesn't "give" away any of these. Apart from the public releases they don't leak out anything by themselves. Most leaks happens from employees, magazines and hardware OEM:s that get hold of a particular build.

As for the amount, Microsoft compiles a LOT of buillds, most of which is never leaked. There is a reason you know why they are numbered... Just be happy that we get the leaks at all... Naturally you're not forced to download them all, however as a beta community BA will aim to get whatever builds possible.

Wow - seems like MS's leak problem has turned into a full scale flood :) Not that i'm complaining - can't wait to get my hands on this one :)

Looks like there is a new default background as well, see it after the jump...

I do know they don’t “give” a lot of builds , however just look at how Windows 7 started, everything was a top secret thing and then once Beta 1 got released boom! Lots of builds started to pop out recently almost every day.
I mean just look only 5 builds got leaked before Beta 1 and now after beta 1 we got about 12 “leaked” builds.
The Key hasn’t changed, unlike Vista Longhorn, that Microsoft didn’t wanted builds to get out and if they did they changed the Keys to protect again… with Windows 7 ever since Beta 1 no product key has changed , and lots of builds are out…
I’m not complaining is just is not normal…
And in my personal opinion Microsoft is getting tired of Beta Programs and they are now using “Leak” testing to get 10 times more feedback, with more PCs and more real-life or “production” scenarios.
I like that we are getting so many builds but at the same time it’s just weird…
We even got some SP1 bits in here when the damn thing is not even RTM! I don’t know you but that’s way too weird…

I hope someone makes this into an ISO, builds are leaking so frequently that I'm starting to loose interest.

Someone over at Neowin has this to say, which is interesting if it's true.
NOT RTM escrow. Possible RTM escrow is a recompile of this build made on the 13th (6.1.7232.0.winmain.090613-0700)

No.

They need pre-release software to be public in order for hardware and software manufacturers to work on developing/making their software work AND it's a good way for them to try to push and have test the OS onto thousands of machines, many of which are in big corporations who are planning on rolling the OS out to huge networks of computers. That means more money for Microsoft sooner and better compatibility/less problems at launch. They need milestone/official releases in order for people to take them seriously. RC seems to have become more of a formal term to convince people holding back on testing the software to go ahead and do so. Why would they not be interested in that?

Maybe they are leaking builds more frequently to get feedback, but I'm sure it's 99% from people interested in the development. You aren't going to see any IT managers going "Let's test out this new leaked build of Windows on our hardware."

Umm I meant Beta Programs , like connect… not TAP programs, they will die without TAP programs…

Also like you said RC and Beta are for everyone to test and such… but before all this Microsoft used connect to give normal developers and IT guys the inside view , with “inside” builds of what Microsoft was doing…
Right now connect only has like 3 builds , while the “leaks” well just check your collection…

Quote:

Actually you are wrong… Developers and IT Pros usually try to use the latest build possible, that’s why everyone craves more builds, they need to know what changed if the apps or configs will work or not .
If the pcs will be able to run fine or not…
I know a lot of people that used “unofficial” builds of Longhorn/Vista to check the progress (if any), with Windows 7 is the same, however with so many builds now , I think it’s hard for everyone to keep up now.
You just don’t have enough time to fully test the builds.
And that’s a huge difference between “leaks” and beta programs or ctps

I don't understand why MS does not change the recompile number of the builds anymore, all the recent recompiles had a '0' as recompile number.... :S

It’s mostly because they are rushing, they want RTM and looks like SP1 done by the end of the year.
So they are moving some not all the builds from winmain and fbl without redoing or fixing a build with the same one, if they fix or change something they add it to the next build in queue.

Maybe a stupid question, but: Why does Microsoft make so many builds? I don't see a lot of difference between the builds (except for Milestones vs. Beta vs. RC). If it is only for fixing bugs, why don't they just make "a list of known bugs"?
I understand that things have to be tested, but I don't get who is going to insall a build every day. You don't have any time to test it, only if you do it all over the day. I think microsoft should give a little bit more time to let people test everything.

I have heard a little time ago that there are also 'lab' builds, which include small changes to test new features of the labs out. But they don't have the winmain tag do they?

I really would like that microsoft make a list of changes for each build.

Builds are automatically done every day, and is the only sensible option. With the amount of checkins MS get every day, they need to build every day to defend against serious errors creeping in.

Obviously, they don't hand these builds out to even internal testing. Most of these builds would normally see nothing more than maybe some automated testing by a bot to ensure everything still works and that there are no regressions with the new checkins.

VHD now on M1 server and available from all accounts to download :)

How is stability on this build compared to 7100 x64?

From what I heared somewhat more stable.
But I am still using the 7100 x64, it works perfect for me, no need to upgrade.

* I wonder how many builds we get until the RTM signoff in 1 month *

Offtopic Comment
In 1 month the RTM is available to Technet/MDSN subscribers already (from what I heared, correct me if I am wrong) and then I am going to upgrade (reinstall) to RTM.

EDIT:
I am not against vhd leakes but why not leak the ''untouched'' ISO from it.

Maybe they don't have access to an untouched ISO. Like the 6956 leak where some guy have to copy it from the system and fix it.

Before Vista, it was impossible to leak an VHD and expect it to work, today WIM technology made it possible to restore the image and create an iso.

I know, but I prefer an untouched iso, but even if they are not there, it still works, capturing images removes all traces of user input (like data, but programs are retained) so you can add stuff what was not part of the original installed iso (it also has more SKU's).

Could anyone post the new wallpaper (not modified with text over it) here? Or if there a few more new ones also? (A link please the image uploader turns them into .jpg)
