I have tried replacing iexplore.exe with the one from vista and install but the installation failed.

I tried it too, but the webpage gives as reason that you can't install it, that the IE8 in 7 is almost RTM, and that it is optimised to Windows 7, so installing IE8 would only make problems.

Install Windows Internet Explorer 8

This installation does not support your system architecture (32/64bits).

[OK]

Oh crap, I downloaded the IE 8 for RISC by accident or something.

You'd think architecture detection would work in 2009.

Installed it and had a little play but I still prefer fire fox. At least that means I still have a good backup browser as I haven't been biffed installing opera or chrome or safari as well as fire fox. IE users will welcome it as its overall seems smoother than 7 and much smoother than 6.

I think there are some improvements, but it is hacked already, and my Norton isn't working in a good way with it (IE8 cancels all the time the phising filter of Norton) :( .

I like the new bar for favourites, and the better way of searching and the tab when you closed one, that you can open it again.

From a Web Developers point of view, it saves a lot of work. It finally works by the same CSS standard everyone else has conformed to for years.
