Today, Microsoft released its first wave of invitations for the Windows 7 beta test. The invitations were only sent to a small, select group of 'technical beta' testers.

In the email sent to invited testers, Microsoft states that the beta is not available for download right away. A reliable Russian website (demo:demo) has claimed that the beta Microsoft will upload is build 7000.0.081212-1400, built December 12th. They also claim the build will be made available to testers within the next 48 hours.

In the email, Microsoft also mentioned their website where it has placed a wealth of information about Windows 7 and mentions the beta. This will likely be updated in the future. It should also be noted that Windows Server 2008 R2, included in this beta test, has a portal too. According to Microsoft's roadmap, this server-orientated Windows will have a longer release, scheduled to be released in 2010.

Is there any beta tester in BA? If yes, can you upload beta once it's available? Make a Christmas gift for BA society :)

Always newest but not this time
it would be nice to get beta but if that leaked via BA member then i think HE/SHE lost chance to get new beta's directly from MS so i think that is not going to happen nope
wait some time who know after some time(as by original post 48 hrs) any of us find any p2p link for that

as long as we don't use their activation code and they remain anonymous we will get it and they won be caught right? (isn't that how 6519 was leaked?)

No, you are not likely to get caught unless you go around advertising that you are the leaker

No, they can't upload the build. Well they can, but then they have a very good chance of being in deep [censored].

I read that post already, but it wouldn't be hard to advertise that you leaked the build And even if you don't advertise the fact you leaked the build you can still get caught.

(Did the Longhorn 3683 leaker go around advertising he leaked the build?)

I got an invite to the beta program, and i can say with 100% certainty that there is no build posted now and there won't be one until the new year.

I believe that BetasIRC got the build from an employee at MS, because he passed it to them anonymously he got away with it. Fact is that if an IRC group leaks it, it is harder to trace, which is why most leaks originally come from IRC release groups.

Thats simply not true, inside the MS Connect Windows 7 Beta Program (the private beta not the public release) they specifically say that there won't be a release until the new year for anyone

Never say never, we've been surprised in the past. But the likelyhood of it is minimal, especially considering the holidays coming up.

Let me quote this from the e-mail they sent us private testers.
Quote:
The Microsoft Windows® beta team would like to extend an invitation to you to participate in the Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows Server® 2008 R2 beta program planned for early 2009 as announced at the Professional Developers Conference Oct 2008.

and

While beta will not be available until early 2009...

The beta will NOT be released until January. Just wait, it's coming! :D

Heh, my experience with previous betas has taught me to never say never regardless of official mails. We have a great team in charge of the winbetas.

I think he was referring to sites of the like of winfuture, which made a post saying that Beta 1 code will be released to Selected testers Friday and to the public on January 7.
