Microsoft is planning to commercialize technology that allows several computer input devices to be used with a PC simultaneously called "Multipoint" (Previously "Multimouse").

Multiple mice, keyboards, styli on Tablet PCs, and point-and-click devices that plug into the USB port will all be able to be used at the same time because of this technology

The main area this technology will be focused on is emerging markets and education where there are PC shortages, or a need to share one computer between a number of children. Non-educational implementations are also being worked on, such as a small-business scenario where more than one office worker could collaborate on one PC at the same time.

The first release is likely to be free for developers, in the hope applications will be built around the software.

Yes, you can... I believe the source article means more than one mouse (and cursor).

Taking just the limits of USB into consideration, you could plug 127 mice into one controller AFAIK. :) But that would be not very productive, I guess.

By linking each student to an individually coloured cursor, MultiPoint organizes students into teams and asks them to perform a series of tasks before moving on to the next screen.
