Not sure what the policy of re-pasting news articles from other sites is here, so here's a link:

http://windows7news.com/2008/07/20/windows-7-server/

Alas, there's only one screen, but info is info!

This was posted in another thread I believe, and I do have my suspicions about it. It's a very easy-to-fake screenshot, and doesn't show anything useful..

It's not the original acticle. The original article was posted here: http://imav8n.wordpress.com/2008/07/14/ ... -go-again/ and has been already deleted. Then, the poster is a Microsoft IT employee, so it's not a fake. At last, I recommend you to read more trustworthy publications, like http://uxevangelist.blogspot.com/2008/0 ... build.html

Here is a cached version of the original post (from google) http://209.85.173.104/search?q=cache:E3ARE2GZOWYJ:imav8n.word...n/&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us

This guy is the real deal, and so is this infoleak.

I agree that it is -very- easy to fake and could be nothing more than Vista/Windows 2008.

Would be nice to think they are on the job though and I guess this early on it's unlikely to have had much of a facelift. Makes sense that M$ could have told him to get it down with increasing publicity too!

Edit: literally just discussed with a member of the M$ uk team that server 7 is in production and staff get to 'dogfood' it.

You base your accusation on an arbitrary time stamp that happens to be "13:37"? c'mon.... 13:37 is during working hours, so why it is so unlikely that it's real only because you interpret the combination as something completely different? If he wanted to "1337" it up there would be better ways. I don't know if it's fake or not, but is it so hard to believe it's real? Microsoft doesn't have 5 developers sitting around a kitchen table working on a single piece of software... While they work on various fixes for existing software they also work on upcoming versions, as well as planning on their successors.

Considering the time where 7 has reached I don't find it unlikely at all that MS has branched off into the next server version.

If you want to point something out about the times involved, the time between build and install should be more of interest.

[quote=Source]Original Install Date: Fri Jul 11 13:37:56 2008
Build: 6608.winmain_win7m2.080511-1400[quote]

Install date: 11 July 08 13:37
Build date : 11 May 08 14:00

It seems more strange that they are testing build that is almost exactly 2 months old. I doubt MS would be using builds nearly two months old anyway.
However, this doesn't prove the build is fake, just that the data *may* be fake. I guess we'll probably never know for sure.

Besides, didn't this come from a blog owned by a Microsoft employee? It seems believable to me.

I think we would be more worried if it didn't leak than if it did... :^)
