This release is 100% RTM (sounds like a bad commercial)

The BillGates release have some files that was taken from some previous beta/rc releases and the BillGates didn't have an options to upgrade from another OS to Vista.

So this is the release to get, although it is twice the size because it's an All In On DVD.

Will this fit on a regular DVD?

Is this the WinBeta release?

Enterprise edition doesn't seem to appear in the list of options that you get when you don't enter a key in this release - I thought it is meant to?

AFAIK no, you can't get the Enterprise Edition that way. MS removed it from the DVD when this method became possible as end users aren't supposed to get the Enterprise Edition. If you look on the DVD (\sources folder), you'll see there are install files for every version of Vista except Enterprise (these files have a .CLG suffix IIRC).

Was Enterprise also not in the BillGates release then? I'm trying to remember if it was or not - I certianly remember seeing Enterprise in one of those lists, but it might have been in one of the RC builds.

I think Enterprise was gone since 5308 or so. What you might remember is maybe the build 5808 of Enterprise Edition. I have the "BillGates" release, and there's no option to install Enterprise, either.

Enterprise is coming in a different iso. Its still alive just not accessible as of yet.

Do enterprises get a separate iso then, that has only Enterprise on it? Seems strange that MS are so keen to stop us getting Enterprise - surely all the pirates will use Ultimate anyway, seeing as that's the best version?

yes but ultimate doesnt have as of yet volume licensing and enterprise does. Enterprise uses KMS while almost all of the other version dont with business being the exception.

Build 5808 has only been seen as the Enterprise edition IIRC, that's why the ISO was small (~1.9GB) compared to the oher Vista ISOs (~2.4GB). These sizes are fom the 32-bit ISOs. So, there's a separate Enterprise ISO. Would love to get my hands on that one, but no idea where to look for it.

I thought using a KMS was possible in all Vista/Longhorn editions? Anyway, Enterprise uses Volume Licensing, but unlike XP/2003, it'll have to be activated anyway.

Has anyone tried seeing what happens once your 30 days for activation are up? I just tried setting my clock forward 2 months (and yes, I did check that this was passed across to the virtual machine) and Vista still seemed to work, except that when opening control panel the frame of the window appeared and then vanished again. If I grabbed the titlebar with the mouse before it vanished, the whole window appeared but with no icons - when set to classic view/details mode, it said "this folder is empty" at the top. Trying to open Computer > Properties to see what it said about the activation did nothing - it didn't even appear.

Also, I tried setting my clock forward, installing Vista, then setting it back and booting Vista. Whatever year between now and the year it was set to for the installation, it worked fine, and it always said 30 days remaining for activation. When I set the year past the install year, it still worked, but with the control panel issue described above, and no way of seeing the activation status.

Weird, huh? :?

Yep, that's weird indeed. I thought Vista was/is supposed to continue running with significantly reduced functionality if the 30 days are up...

I found something to outsmart Vista. I will post it soon, if it works :)

Well the old clock-trick seems not-too-bad ;) - obviously it needs to be properly tested before we can come to any conclusions though.
