Images removed. STOP HOTLINKING AND READ THE RULES. I WILL REMOVE ENTIRE POSTS NEXT TIME.

With Service Pack 3 for Windows XP just over the horizon, we've managed to get our hands on the internal schedule for the release of the highly anticipated update to the aging operating system. As you can see in the list below, most of the stages will occur before the end of the month, though forced automatic updates won't land until June. This delay should give system administrators an ample amount of time to prepare for the upgrade or simply come up with an excuse for when things go awry.

April 14, 2008: Support is available for the release version of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP
April 21, 2008: Original Equipment Manufacturers, Volume License, Connect, and MSDN and TechNet subscribers
April 29, 2008: Microsoft Update, Windows Update, Download Center
June 10, 2008: Automatic Updates

so essentially the 29th is when it drops but June 10 is when it becomes widely available on MS updates, that sounds pretty good.

I have done 7 of 12 laptops with Vista SP1, so i am not finished yet with the Vista ones.

Now all images i created for the classrooms, need to be redone and all laptops (luckely not installed yet).

I hope that microsoft stops for a few months with a new servicepack.
For example:
Office 2003/2007
Server 2003

But great work, cant wait to update my computer.

EDIT:
To bad, they haved continued of the new installer for the whole installation.

More info.

And here is the features in SP3...

Quote:
Network Access Protection (NAP). NAP is a policy enforcement platform built into Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows XP SP3 with which you can better protect network assets by enforcing compliance with system health requirements. Using NAP, you can create customized health policies to validate computer health before allowing access or communication; automatically update compliant computers to ensure ongoing compliance; and optionally confine noncompliant computers to a restricted network until they become compliant.

Descriptive Security Options User Interface. The Security Options control panel in Windows XP SP3 now has more descriptive text to explain settings and prevent incorrect settings configuration.

Enhanced security for Administrator and Service policy entries. In System Center Essentials for Windows XP SP3, Administrator and Service entries will be present by default on any new instance of policy. Additionally, the user interface for the Impersonate Client After Authentication user right will not be able to remove these settings.

Windows Product Activation (key-less). As in Windows Server 2003 SP2 and Windows Vista, users can now complete operating system installation without providing a product key during a full, integrated installation of Windows XP SP3. The operating system will prompt the user for a product key later as part of Genuine Advantage. As with previous service packs, no product key is requested or required when installing Windows XP SP3 using the update package available through Microsoft Update.

Microsoft Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module. Microsoft Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module (Fips.sys) is a FIPS 140-1 Level 1–compliant, general purpose, software-based, cryptographic module in the kernel mode level of the Windows operating system. It runs as a kernel mode export driver (a kernel-mode DLL) and encapsulates several different cryptographic algorithms in an easy-to-use cryptographic module accessible by other kernel mode drivers. It can be linked to other kernel mode services to permit the use of FIPS 140-1 Level 1–compliant cryptography.

“Black Hole” Router Detection. Windows XP SP3 includes improvements to black hole router detection (detecting routers that are silently discarding packets), turning it on by default.

I know but do that for 200 PC's, I think for them i make an GPO.
But we use after a certain amount of time an Ghost image to restore the computers, so everything is exactly the same on each computer.
(the hardware is identical), but now i have to update that image, so the task is:

- Restore computer with old image
- Install SP3
- Create a master image again

And that for 5 different computers, i think i am busy with this for at least 2 weeks.

It could be annoying if they are slow computers.

At least these computers need updating via the GPO.
These are only a small part of the whole organization:

6x Compaq Evo D310 --> 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 with 256MB Ram
12x HP Compaq Evo D530 --> 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 HT with 512 MB Ram

These two are the old ones.
12x Acer Powerseries (i dont know which type) --> 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 with 700MB Ram.

Just got an email from Microsoft for the 5512 build, the download page has the normal plus
checked builds of it, plus the MUI pack update.
The download page for all.
