WinFuture, a german Windows online magazine, made the same error. Don't panic about it, Fireware...

Won't Microsoft announce it as soon as it's gone gold though?

Dunno, but I think they'll wait some time with it, likewise it was with XP.

Oh yes, there's also known a 5920 build

At http://bink.nu/Article8720.bink they seem to think that Office 2007 was finished today, and Vista is nearly done but still needs to be signed off by some managers.

Has 5920 leaked? Do you have it?

I checked my connect with my MSDN and I can't see it

Maybe it was an accedental leak? Or just a publicty trick...

It was fake. It had the same hash as 5840.
However, some files from build 6000 have leaked

No, the leaked files are real, courtesy of our Russian friends.

Any links, and the topic is closed. What you do in your PMs is your business.

I think it's pretty terrible that they've left it like that - some say it boots so fast it doesn't matter, but it just looks unfinished. By the way, that build Thurrott is using is one build before the golden build (6000.16385.061030-1720 as opposed to 6000.16386.061101-2205), but we can pretty safely say the golden build will not have a new boot screen

Also, look at this screenshot: http://bink.nu/photos/news_article_imag ... ginal.aspx See that icon on the taskbar button for the "About Windows" window? Yep, that's the icon for a filetype that has no registered icon (so NOT the Winver window!), and not only that, it's the XP version of that icon, not a Vista icon at all! And this is supposed to be the golden build...

I noticed that ages ago in one of the CPP builds and just thought of it as one of those bugs that would be fixed by gold (I can't remember if I reported it or not). Maybe if someone works out what DLL that icon is coming from we can fix it ourselves - it's what? 5 minutes work? Couldn't someone at Microsoft have found time to do that, you know, sometime in the last half a decade or so?

Also from one of the other screenshot's that Bink has it looks like the Registry Editor icon hasn't been updated either Load up Windows 3.11 (yes, that relic from 15 years ago), run Regedit from the Windows folder, go to Help > About, and what do you see? Yep, that horrible old Regedit icon, the very same one that's in Vista...

Yeah, I'm pretty horrified with some of the graphical elements in vista (although I am a perfectionist, thanks to autism), especially some bits and bobs in explorer / taskbar etc... (the gap between network connections and the rest of the systray)

Yeah that gap gets annoying.

Anyways, It's a shame that they didn't change the boot screen.
