Just got this email saying that a Technical Refresh of SBS2008 (Codename "Cougar") has just been released. Only a Refresh so still based on Server 2008 RC0 like Beta 2; looks like we'll have to wait until the next big release for a version based on the RTM. Note that you need to fill out a short survey to say you wish to test this build and whether you would like them to ship you the DVDs.

Quote:
Greetings from the Small Business Server 2008 Team
We are pleased to announce the release of Windows® Small Business Server 2008 Beta 2 Technical Refresh!
As compared to the Beta 2 release, The Beta 2 Technical Refresh of Windows® Small Business Server 2008 (formerly codenamed "Cougar") mostly contains bug fixes and some feature updates. Our intent was to further improve the stability and polish of the Beta 2 build, and address many of the issues we received via connect feedback. The build should not be considered a final version of the product as several features are in continued development.
We look forward to your continued participation in the Beta program. The product development team seeks confirmation that we have gotten it right. Your feedback can and will directly impact the design of this exciting new product!
This Beta is still a confidential program at this time. We are continuing to extend the Beta to additional external Partners and customers. We are still at a point in our release cycle, where we are broadening our exposure, yet trying to balance this against keeping the beta Confidential. Participants are still required to agree to the terms of confidentiality in this beta in order to participate.
This Beta 2 Technical Refresh release is designed for evaluation and feedback purposes only and is not designed to be run in a production environment. We will be providing support through Beta Newsgroups only.
For this release we will be shipping media to only Beta participants who have taken the participation survey and have asked us to ship us media. Here is the link. Windows Small Business Server 2008 - Beta 2 Technical Refresh Participation Survey (http://connect.microsoft.com/cougar/Sur ... veyID=5775)
As always, please make sure that your shipping address information is up to date. You can update your contact information by going to http://connect.microsoft.com and clicking on the 'Manage Your Connect Profile' at the bottom left hand corner of the page.
Documentation, downloadable software and Beta 2 Technical Refresh product keys are all available on the MS Connect site. Product Keys used in Beta 2 may continue to be used with this build.
With Beta 2 Technical Refresh, the Premium edition of SBS is including a 2nd copy of Windows Server (both x86 and x64) for your domain, with the option of running SQL Server. Therefore, you will see the following product files available for download:
• Beta2TR_DVD1.iso - Installation
• Beta2TR_DVD2x64.iso - Windows Server 2008® RC0 x64 for Windows Server® Code Name "Cougar"
• Beta2TR_DVD2x86.iso - Windows Server 2008® RC0 x68 for Windows Server® Code Name "Cougar"
• Beta3TR_DVD3.iso - Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 November CTP 5 x86 and x64
• The minimum system requirements to run Windows Small Business Server 2008 Beta 2 Technical Refresh are :
o X64 Intel or AMD PC
o 2.66 gigahertz (GHz) processor
o 4 GB of physical memory
o DVD drive
o Single network adapter
o At least 60 gigabytes (GB) of free disk space
o A display adapter with 128 megabytes (MB) (for Windows Aero compatibility)
o An broadband externally visible Internet connection
o A router
o A domain name
o The domain name can be an existing one that you own or you can use the Get a Domain Name wizard technology within Beta 1 to purchase a new Internet domain name.
o A client computer running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Microsoft Windows Vista Business, Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate, or Microsoft Windows Vista Enterprise.
o A copy of Microsoft Office 2007 or Microsoft Office 2003.

Are you in the beta on Connect? If so you don't need the email, just head over to Connect and fill out the short survey in the Cougar section to let them know you're interested in getting this build.

If you're already in the beta, you fill out the survey, and make sure you've got your shipping address entered in your Connect profile, yes :) You should have got Beta 2 of this (3 DVDs: SBS itself, Server 2008 RC0 x64 standalone for the optional second server, and SQL Server 2008 CTP) too if you're in the beta and did the survey then.

Yep - I've got it. Are you in the beta? You will only see it if already in the beta, you had to sign up a while ago (though they seem to suggest they will open it to new participants too so look out for links or invite codes online).

Awesome, it says in the leaflet that comes with the discs (got mine today too) that the Server 2008 discs (for installing the optional second server for SQL that comes with SBS Premium 2008) are still RC0 (like I think B2TR is still based on), but the build of setup.exe is 6001.18000 - is that the RTM? The volume label is KB2LxPREM_EN_1, which doesn't look like RTM Server 2008 but maybe it's because it's the SBS disc ("PREM" as in SBS Premium) and the rest of the disc's contents are identical to the regular Server 2008 RTM? If so, this will save me downloading Server 2008 as I haven't got it otherwise yet! :D

Yeah, everything is Server 2008 RTM (6001.18000) based now.
