MSN 'to charge user fee'

Quote:
Microsoft is reportedly planning to start charging surfers for the improved services of its MSN internet portal.

The site receives 200 million visits a month worldwide, and is the UK's most viewed website.

Microsoft's UK managing director told the Independent on Sunday that fees could be introduced within 12 months.

Any move by MSN to start fee-charging would pave the way for its competitors yahoo.com and aol.com to follow suit.

I would like to remind everyone that anyone who thinks this means MSN Messenger will cost money is a moron.

FFS, someone sent me this, and I thought it was recent news. I never looked at the date. Guess this topic has no relevance and should be locked.

Dude...this is fake...now let me write up a good post about an email being sent around :p

Basically someone will send you some email...its not real but it says hotmail will be charged/MSN will be charged... the only thing that was/is being charged is any NEW @MSN.com email, all previous @MSN.com emails created before some time in 2003 (I think April) are free and always will be provided you use the account...

No, because in that sector, Market share and Brand Recognition is more important than profit. If MS charged for Messenger, everyone would migrate. There are plenty of free rivals, no one in their right mind would pay for IM

and that would be stupid of microsoft to do such a thing, the ads at the bottom of WLM gives them income, if half the users switch, the cost for the fee would be pretty expensive.
