Three of the Five Undersea Cables cut in the Middle East are to be restored by Sunday

The total of Underseas Cables cut in the middle east stands at five, after three days, which possibly means that it's over, and as unlikely as it seems, FLAG Telecom has announced that an abandoned ship's anchor caused the cut between Oman and UAE on Friday.

Undersea Cables are used for approximately 95% of trans-oceanic telecommunications, and these incidents have resulted in serious downtime. Egypt has lost more than 50% of Internet bandwidth down for estimated 10 days and the UAE has had to use a land-line over Saudi Arabia as a temporary solution until connectivity is restored.

It seems like coincidence, but remember when the first cut made International news? Even single cuts are very rare. Watch this space.

Its no coincidence. You don't get 5 cables cut by accident. Its obvious this is an attempt to cut off these parts of the world from the web, or indeed make it very difficult and slow to access it.

You have to think of other aspects of this though. Economy for example will be suffering because of the loss of these links. Some businesses will rely on these links to do business, so they will have lost money, trade, etc.

Whoever has done this really hasn't thought it through and the long term implications of doing such a thing. I really hope it was all accidental...
