MICROSOFT pre-release BUILD of WINDOWS 8.1 2014 UPDATE LEAK JANUARY 15th. Microsoft: "Repent sinners!", go back to the fold, and it or bury the final finals 8.1 ...

Image

December 26, 2013, we're (CÂ and Ko) reported that the latest security updates from Microsoft comes out January 14, 2014 onwards, i.e. in the new year by the Julian calendar, but this time Microsoft did not confine itself to a banal issue security updates or "ROLLUP" package.

The company Microsoft announced its General ("Golden") OEM partners that it is working to release a new update of the RTM release of Windows 8.1 2014 Update.
This is not a Service Pack (Service Pack) to Windows 8 as we are used to seeing all these years, it will be updated with RTM release and its distributions.

Because Microsoft must respond flexibly to changing market conditions have changed and the process of production operating systems: Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 RT.
Service packs (Service Pack) over Microsoft produces, manufactures ROLLUP's (RTM_GDR ) which includes both security updates; critical updates; cumulative updates and new functionality.
However, Microsoft decided to release this new Windows release 8.1 2014 RTM Update.

The final RTM build (Windows 8.1 2014 Update) will be available in about three months, i.e. somewhere in March 2014,and it will be available from April 1, 2014 as a free upgrade for all users of Windows 8.
Update will be distributed through Windows Update.
Full RTM distributions also will be available to MSDN subscribers and clients-MVLS in late March and likely in early April.
All of this will be held in conjunction with the annual Conference of the "Build 2014" held by Microsoft, this time it will be held in San Francisco, California (San Francisco, CA) with 2-year April 4, 2014 .

However, since January 15, 2014 and for a period of three months by the OEM Microsoft partners will be made available as pre-release versions (pre-RTM release builds) builds of the upcoming RTM release, and to keys new.
The pre-release Windows 8.1 2014 Update assemblies can be installed with RTM keys from Windows 8.1.

And so, that should be expected with January 15, 2014 years from Microsoft?
First full Assembly (full builds) pre-release pre-release Windows 8.1 2014 Update, as well as a separate GDR (General Distribution Release) that can be individually integrated into the distributions or installed separately.
The ("Golden") OEM partners will become available following the client Windows 8.1 2014 Update: ADK x86_x64, SDK_WDK, Symbols, Language Packs x86_x64 x86_x64, Single Language Builds, Builds Language x86_x64 x86_x64 ...

At this point we can build:
pre-release UPDATE BUILD 2014: 6.3.9600.16581. WINBLUES14_GDR_LEAN.2 13122-2030

Company Microsoft has no plans to make public these pre-release Windows 8.1 2014 Update assemblies, they are strictly confidential and each Assembly has a digital signature that can be used to identify the source of leaks of sensitive information.

However, perhaps we will be able to provide these preliminary Assembly (pre-release builds) for general public testing.
This may happen not earlier than one old new od, but until then be content with screenshots ...
look here screenshots: pre-release UPDATE BUILD 2014: 6.3.9600.16581. WINBLUES14_GDR_LEAN.2 13122-2030

In my opinion, that picture looks ugly as hell. It just doesn't suit me in the slightest, and to be honest, I don't want to have another upgrade thing. All I want is a simple Windows Update thing, and then I'm good to go.

These screenshots are... dubious, to say at least.

Finally, it looks like we are starting to see new builds appearing of upcoming versions of Windows.

Except that this is simply an update for Windows 8.1 that will be freely available within a short time period, so they would obviously have less reason to label it as such. Also, Windows 8.1 Pro Preview (Build 9431) doesn't have the "Evaluation" tag either, and yet it was an official release, and even then, you still don't know whether anything has changed with future releases.

Still, even though this is only a minor update, it will obviously serve as the base for the next version of Windows, so it is still quite a significant discovery nonetheless.

This is generally a build for OEM partners, like the fbl_partner_out's of 8.1 so that is why I expect an Evaluation copy. tag.

I don't see a difference from 6.3.9600.16581 from 6.3.9600.16384.
Also, the MS Build poster at the top looks ABSOLUTELY PUT TOGETHER AND FAKE. Is this even real?

It is the official buildwindows.com screenshot with some text on top of it. It is not supposed to be a real announcement picture.

Loooks pretty real to me... anyways, hype - I am always looking forward to new windows builds!

Maybe the start menu is coming back? If not, at least let us move around program groups in the start screen - thats pretty my only complaint about windows 8.

so at the end OS that got .1 is now getting small service packs
where is the logic there ?

didn't they ditch SP's on purpose in favor of .2 .3 ... ? and now they doing them again ?

This is not a service pack. This is just an update rollout that will change the interface, it is not a service pack nor a .2 or anything.

I heard that this will add mini-Start. It is very much like the traditional Start menu. Users for those who want use the Start menu, this is a good news. But this is true?

The interface looks exactly the same to me, but I'm hoping that rumor is true... the little Windows button in 8.1 isn't much of an improvement over 8.

Jeez, why can't they just give you the option to put the start menu back and disable Metro like tons of customers want?

Current internal builds have mini-start but it is not "very much like the traditional Start menu", it is just start menu-ish.

The problem here is that while I see arguments for and against Metro, I have almost never seen discussions on how to improve it or anything like that.

It's either "Metro is good and has no issues whatsoever because touch is the future for everyone" or "Metro is completely junk and Microsoft should have stayed with the Windows 7 desktop". Why can't people at least learn to accept some middle ground? At least we had that even as late as the early-2000s, yet it seems that people can't learn to accept it today...

Note that I am NOT flaming you at all (on the contrary, I have nothing personal against you and have no reason to anyway); rather, I am simply explaining that these types of discussions are not really needed, since they don't actually help at all, but instead simply create more problems. The best thing to do, by far, is to send feedback to Microsoft about the issues that you had with the new user interface, and what could be done to improve it - at least that is the way that it would have been done by professionals.

To everyone else:
This particular build is simply for an update to Windows 8.1, so it most likely will not introduce any significant changes. However, it is still significant, since it is obviously the base for the next version of Windows (Windows 8.2 and/or Windows 9), meaning that anything seen in this particular update will also be seen in upcoming Windows versions.

But anyway, to the original poster, thanks for this update on the development of Windows, it was greatly appreciated.

WZOR and microsoft OEM's have 6.3.9600.16581.WINBLUES14_GDR_LEAN.13122 2-2030 at the moment. Microsoft isn't planning on releasing a public preview for this update.
All the builds have a digital signature that identifies the source of any potential leak, so for now WZOR will only leak screenshots. He might eventually leak one of these OEM builds though...
