Too bad I don't have a 64bit testing machine. I guess the old Athlon XP isn't going to cut it anymore.

Greetings from the Cougar Team!

We are writing because we have reviewed your application to be in the Windows Server Code Name "Cougar" TechBeta program. We are fast approaching our Beta 2 milestone. We need you to complete some simple steps if you wish to participate in the Windows Server Code Name "Cougar" Beta TechBeta program.

The Cougar Beta is a confidential program at this time. We are extending the techbeta to additional external Partners and customers. We are the point in our release cycle, where we are broadening our exposure, yet trying to balance this against keeping the beta confidential. Applicants are required to agree to the terms of confidentiality in this beta in order to be accepted.

So those simple steps..... To accept this invitation and to apply to become a member of this program, follow this link:

To accept this invitation and to apply to become a member of this program, follow this link:
*deleted*

(If this link does not work for you, copy the full link and paste it into the Web browser address bar.) (If this does not work, please contact us at sbscoug@microsoft.com)

Follow the steps shown to you by that program to apply to become an active participant. You will be asked to take a survey. To report a problem or to ask a question, visit the Contact Us page (found at the bottom of every page).

After these steps you will be in a pending status. Once we reach our Beta 2 milestone and on a reoccurring basis, we will approve those who have agreed to the terms of confidentiality. So, there may be a slight delay from the time you apply and the time that you have access to the beta 2 release. After that, you should be able to log bugs and view bugs that others have submitted and download the Beta 2 software. You will also see the supporting documentation, FAQ, announcements, and Links to other supporting sites.
If you have a question for the SBS Cougar team, please email us at SBSCoug@microsoft.com.

Thanks for completing these simple steps, and we look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Kevin Beares
SBS Community Lead

I just got this email :)

It's on Connect, yes, but I haven't downloaded it as they said they will be shipping DVDs of it. According to the newsgroup, they're in the post already! :D

I have already got the 3 discs sent. (the real discs! from microsoft)
So i can upload them if you want.
Disc 1 contains the installation
Disc 2 contains Windows Server 2008 RC0 (to work with cougar)
Disc 3 contains the SQL server (for the databases of the server).

Anyone interested?

Hope this isn't a bump, it's just about within the 1 month limit - I just thought I'd add that I found that it was lack of Ram (2 GB in my VMware test machine) causing my installation of Cougar to fail, in case anyone is having the same problem. I got round this by opening up Task Manager while the SBS install wizard was running and killing the SQL Server process when memory usage was getting close to 100% (SQL seems to use more and more memory as the installation progresses and was up to 6-700 MB by the time I killed it). After that point it looked from the task list as though Exchange installation was starting and that used a lot of memory too, which I think must have been the point at which the installation was failing as it was running out of memory. As you can see from the process list once it is running, this is a very resource-intensive server! (it has 1.5 GB Ram here) -

The crash during installation that was occurring when it was running out of memory.

Just a bit of info for anyone interested in Cougar :)
