Version 7 of Windows Update perhaps but its more of a catalog as I was searching information about Longhorn 3718 and updating it and stumbled upon this

They also seem to be trialling a new method to put people off using competing browsers. When opening the site in Seamonkey, It redirects to a error page saying:
Quote:
The website has encountered a problem
[Error number: 8DDD0020]
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.

However, when using the User Agent switcher to change the agent string to IE7/Vista, and it works fine. :?

Yup, I got that too, using Firefox on a Mac - strangely enough, if you click one of the help options beneath the error message, the help page is loaded but is then very quickly replaced by the same error again!

Its not friendly with Firefox so its a pure IE 7 product.

Correction: It works fine in all other browsers, It's probably some javascript or vbscript that simply detects the browser and redirects if it's not IE. Like I said, i used an extension to report to the site a different browser (IE7/Vista) and it works fine. Its still using the mozilla rendering engine, just reporting itself as a different browser.

Ah ok, but I find this one an interesting find, as we can find the fix we need right there, they shoulda thought of this back when Blaster started messing up Windows 2000.

Such a possibility has existed (or has been existing (?)) for several years. There was a special URL (forgot it, but it contained the word "corporate" IIRC) pointing to a site where you selected your OS and then you could manually download the updates you wanted, saving them for future installation.

I think that this is it, though I can't be sure as I haven't got Windows/IE right now and it doesn't load in anything else - I did have a look at it once before but couldn't get it to work properly though, and I seem to remember it being a little confusing.

yes, that's the site. I think it is actually easier to find the updates you want on that site, as you can select the OS that you want and sort it by name, date, etc.
