Forum rules

Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

Not all Windowses comes as ISO files. The embedded tools are a set of tools to customise and create a build of Windows embedded to use in the enviroment it was designed for. It's not a full fledged Windows build, so you won't find it as an ISO unless someome creates a custom ISO with a pre-configured Windows Embedded set of files.

I might be wrong here, but if there were a true ISO I would not see why since no company in the need of a customized Windows for their embedded tools would need it since the Windows build would be needing a lot of tweaking with drivers and software before it's usable. As I said, it's not a regular customer OS, you can build Windows embedded for situations where you don't even need a UI at all. No keyboard, mouse, audio or anything. So would would there then be a full GUI-driven and bootable ISO of it?

Yeah, most of the Embedded versions come only with their tools like the Target Designer and a set of possible
configurations, but there are also some versions of XP Embedded which contain the precompiled OS, like Embedded
for Point of Service. I remember also downloading a bootable XP Embedded ISO (not sure wich SP) directly from
Microsoft once.
Will have a look-see later...

Yeah, but those are usually just a boot loader into a terminal window, nothing more. You still have to use the various tools, such as the Target Designer, to build your own usable bootable system customised for the environment you need to run Windows with a small footprint on.

The POS (Point of Service, not what you are thinking now :P) one was a bootable setup disc. Not sure about the other one...

That would be called Windows PE right? Anyway, for a generic build for all x86 machines, use the "WinLogon Sample Macro".

I must of been thinking of Windows Embedded Standard, IIRC, it had it's own special theme, and was on a iso

The trial comes via download as .exe not .iso

If you order it, it comes and cd's and the first one is bootable.
It is just an Windows PE XP Disk (only command prompt and run from cd) for catching information about the PC and sending it to the technician pc.

Just download the trial, download an Windows PE Disk (it can be even beta's disks or just make one with bartpe and make sure it's a command prompt because the program must be run from a command prompt).

Windows XP Fundamentals for Legacy PCs.
It's XP Embedded for a majority of PCs, works with standard XP drivers if I recall correctly, has most XP support.

Designed for companies that don't want to spend $$$ to upgrade to XP/Vista with older hardware. The CD also offers a Remote Desktop client bootable from CD... nice to have for a quick thin-client.
