Forum rules

Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

Hi, i was wondering if anyone had a copy of the source code of MS-DOS 6.00. I used to have a copy but it seems to have gone missing and it was in the Old Archive afaik.

Be aware that MS-DOS 6 source code was never leaked, the archives you see saying they are MS-DOS 6 are actually MS-DOS 5. You never had the MS-DOS 6 source code.

I don't really see how that confirms it. I read multiple places that confirmed it was NOT MSD6. As we all know too well, it's very easy to change a few files to make it look like a different version. But I compared some file sizes between the supposed "dos 6" file from Google Code and the dos 5 source code and they were identical.

I'll believe otherwise if you can compile a few binaries and show me that they're identical to the DOS 6 versions and not DOS 5.

The only leaked code for MS-DOS is DOS 6.00 (Astro). This has variously appeared as DOS 5 and DOS 6, and since some of the code dates from DOS 5, some strings are not changed. Two files not in the mix are IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS, along with the 'additional tools' (it is an OEM base set).

One version of the release had the DOS diskettes already prepared, less IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS, so you could build a working install from it. This version has the standard DOS 6.0 help, complete with DOSSHELL reference. It also featured DOSSHELL in the install,.
