Only the patched one leaked. The untouched ISO didn't boot, or install properly, or... something like that... c0d3rz wrote aboute it somewhere.

I know about installation problems etc., there is info about that at startup of WinPE (last screenshot). But i like untouched versions like Neptune 5111, it's a pity that original 4093 was not leaked :(. Anyway, thanks for respond.

The only thing touched in the ISO is the installation because the original one didn't install correctly... Nothing inside the OS itself is touched.

A time ago (back in 2006), I had the untouchd version of 4093. I was really happy and all, so why not installing? After the first boot I got a stupid blue screen and I was sad about it.

Now in 2009 I don't have the untouched version anymore, but be happy your version is patched. Cause the original suck [beep].

The untouched version does NOT boot!
It must be installed through Windows.
In this modified version, one must open the 4093 folder and start setup from there.

If you want the original, simpily compile the 4093 folder with the 4074 boot sector. When creating the iso using cdimage, allow long file name, allow to exceed 650 MB, use UDF file system "-u2" , don't include hidden files, optimize "-o".

This image is quite close to the original if MS was to compile it.

I'll like to make a point, if MS don't compile the iso, aka a stole build just as 3683, 5231, 5552 and etc.
The iso is not compile properly. Whoever compiled 5231 made an mistake by not using long file names. So the original iso is screwed up. The only point to have an original iso is for collecting purpose only.

Back when I set up the 4093 leak I hadn't known that you can swap out the WinPE section of the disc with another Longhorn's and it would boot directly to setup. I've never seen the patched version you screenshotted, but I do remember some people tried their own leak of 4093 once I'd given mine out. There are a ton of 4xxx builds where the WinPE was broken, I'd say a good 20%.

Again, as mentioned, Microsoft didn't usually provide ISOs - the disc contents were held on a network share and run from that.

This version is on the FTP, at least when I downloaded it.
But it doesn't work at my end.

It works "fine" in VMware for me (well it's unstable like others 40xx builds)... is this really last Longhorn build before M$ "restart" the project?

Yes it is. About two hours after 4093 was made, build 3790.1212 was made. I know that's the build number for Win2k3, but this build is built from the Windows Server 2003 code and had the Windows XP Interface.

More info about buld 3790.1212 here

The Reset was planned a long time before 4093, they knew they were going to have to start again from scratch because the project was falling apart all over the place. In fact, the 5000 builds had started being compiled before then too: 5000.vbl_core.040803-2000 was a whole 16 days before 4093.

So that means they worked on original Longhorn and Vista (codename "Longhorn") simultaneously? Why did they continue in developement of Longhorn?

Maybe because 4093 was already half-way in development, and Microsoft felt it might as well finish this last build before fully shift to the new 5xxx branch.

Also, 4093 is the last build from the main lab, I believe there were a few later from other labs.

Before the BA wiki went down, the last build was recorded as 4094 (I don't have the full tag on me)

Yes, there were even 2 known builds signed with number 4094 and 3 other 4093s compiled after that one that leaked althought none of them (win)main...
Code:
4093.040928 (winmain_oobe/avalon_wap_beta1.050620-2052) <- WTF?!
4093.041006 (private/wcp_dev_platform(danmohr).041116-2208
4093.0 (lab03_dev(a-micnaz).040714-1853)
4094 (private/Lab06_dev_platform(snaptab).041124-0021)
4094 built by: private/Lab06_dev_tech(skatari)

EDIT: whooops, just noticed that 4093.0 (lab03_dev(a-micnaz).040714-1853) was compiled before. So forget about this one :P

That's weird.

My copy of Longhorn 4093 has the buildnumber: 4093.main.040819.1215

Yeah, only 4093.main.040819-1215 was leaked. FiFi send build tags of unleaked builds...
