Please read the following rules before posting a download request in this area:

1. Don't post a request if you have under 10 posts as stated on the front page. If you do anyway, it will be deleted without further notice. This also applies to other members: If you see a request by someone with less than 10 posts and it hasn't been deleted yet, please don't reply to it.
2. Don't request for warez or any copyrighted software. Only betas (no matter how old or new) and finals of operating systems and applications that are at least 10 years old and therefore classified as abandonware are allowed to be uploaded to and shared on the BetaArchive FTP server.
3. If you have your own FTP server where you'd like other members to upload what you're looking for to, please don't post its login details in any open forum as that will probably lead to abuse. Post the login details in the Private Servers section instead.
4. Check that we don't already have the file on our FTP servers. If you don't have access to the FTP servers then ask someone who has (a moderator for example).

I suppose you mean the version I posted screenshots of.
http://www.hpcfactor.com/ftp-root/software/microsoft/sdk-211-hpc-pro/HPCPRO_SDK_USA.exe
This is the SDK containing the environment, compiled for x86. Best to run it on NT4 or Win2k.

That's even cooler than I thought it would be!

I reckon the thing to do would be to make a really stripped-down version of Windows that includes no accessories or anything like that, and uses this as the shell. Is there no possibility that it would work on 9x, or does it use the API calls that NT has but 9x doesn't?

I have no idea if it'll work on 9x, but it won't surprise me if it doesn't. Anyway, you could probably make a really stripped down NT4 Workstation or Embedded install/image containing only what this requires to run and set it as a shell.

I told you it probably won't work on XP and newer versions. Use NT4 or Win2000. I successfully installed it on the latter and it worked but there were some minor quirks.

Handheld PC 2000 SDK containing a bootable x86 image. It has been compiled for a specific hardware configuration though and won't run properly in a virtual machine (I posted screenshots of that one as well, they're all limited to 320x240). Newer images are all Pocket PC/Windows Mobile since the "Handheld PC" was pretty much given up after HPC2000. There's the CE 5.0 emulator with a similar approach, if that's of any use.

What exactly are you looking for?

Wasn't there a later version that was built for x86 native?

Windows CE can be built for a number of architectures, including x86, ARM and MIPS. There may be more, but those are the ones I know. As I said, there is the "Windows CE 5.0 Device Emulator" and there's also a collection of bootable CE 3.0(HPC2000)/CE 4.0/CE 5.0 VHDs which run on x86 systems.
